A not for profit community interest company empowering women to perform, write and do business with humour.

About us

Funny Women is the leading female comedy community helping women to perform, write or do business with humour. At the heart of Funny Women’s philosophy is a desire to help women find their voice, whether that be for self-development, business or everyday life. Since 2002, when Lynne Parker founded Funny Women, the company has trained thousands of women (and quite a few men!) to 'Stand Up to Stand Out' with our unique comedy workshops, which are designed to help women utilize stand-up comedy techniques not only on-stage, but also in business and every-day life. These workshops take place on a monthly basis, and are open to the general public. Funny Women also provides tailored training for corporate clients and individuals on request. The company has worked with RBS/NatWest, Royal Mail, East Coast Trains, Benefit Cosmetics, Girl Guiding, Camden School for Girls, Women in Film and Television, Women for Women, Women Unlimited, Arbonne, London Launch and Joseph Sterling to name but a few. Funny Women offers corporate workshops to men and women, although it is encouraged that men and women are trained separately. Funny Women has developed #HERlarious as a specialist corporate brand aimed at improving confidence, presentation skills, creativity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. I’ve taken a break from posting on here – not a holiday, as I was working up at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world largest arts festival. Instead, I left Funny Women CIC to do all the ‘heavy lifting’ while I popped back into the ‘engine room’ to make sure that everything is tickety-boo and replenish my own batteries with some creative sustenance. Just before I went, somebody asked me if I stilled loved comedy after 22 years? I’m not going to answer that (yet) and leave you to decide with the help of these pictures straight from the coalface. I spent six days in the company of my amazing colleagues, Kirstin Miller and Roxy JC, launching The Glitter Project which you can read about all about here https://lnkd.in/dAAQkyrg and seeing as many shows as we could. More to follow when I’ve had time to process and think about what I saw. Having a few days away from constantly worrying about posting on here has been amazing – it’s given me the opportunity to immerse myself in what I was seeing rather than stamping an opinion on it all. Social media FOMO, not to mention endless scrolling to see what everybody else is doing, makes my brain hurt and I really stand by the phrase, ‘comparison is the thief of joy’. My time at the Fringe, with the support of an incredible team of volunteers who freed me up from the social grind, gave me breathing space and I may have refreshed my love affair with comedy. Thank you. 🙏 #funnywomen #glitterproject #edfringe

I’m about to head off with Funny Women CIC into that great creative artistic melting pot - the Edinburgh Festival Fringe! It’s a fleeting visit as I will be back in London to run my next Stand Up to Stand Up - Summer School at the The Groucho Club Ltd. on Saturday 17th August. 🌞 This is an action packed one-day event with workshops run by me and two amazing guest facilitators, combining elements of our popular Stand Up to Stand Out workshop and the Comedy Crash Course.  Designed to take you on a comedy journey without it being scary, we will introduce you to some techniques to help you perform, write or create comedy or inject some humour into your everyday interactions, at work or play. 😁    Coffee, tea, pastries and a light lunch are included in your ticket price and Groucho Club and Funny Women Patreon members get this half-price. Plus, this all takes place in the iconic surroundings of the original London private members club, of which I’m privileged to be a founder member. 😊 I’ll be bringing a bit of comedy glitter with me back from Edinburgh and, with the help of Claudine Ullman and Emma Loveday, this is a guaranteed antidote to Fringe FOMO. 😂 Are you in? Here’s some pics from last year’s Summer School to wake up your funny bones and all the details are here: https://lnkd.in/eS8kRBw3 - Groucho Club and Funny Women Patreon members get this half-price. 😎 #funnywomen #summerschool #standuptostandout #workshop

I’m constantly overwhelmed but in a good way! I’m not used to so many positive things all happening at once for Funny Women CIC and me personally so the frustration of not being able to celebrate some successes adequately has been a bit of a pressure! 😨 The truth is that I simply haven’t had time! Anyway, here's a round up and thank you for all the support I've had over the last few weeks. 😍 #funnywomen #glitterproject #awards

All my hard work seems to be paying off and, like buses, everything has come along at once! 🚌 🚌 🚌 This is a 'quickie' post as all of this deserves more detail but I'm going to leave you hanging as I'm off for a few days break with my family. At least this week is ending on a high. 😃 The most important and exciting news is that after three attempts (yes, I know people do more but it has been a marathon...) I've secured an Arts Council England grant for Funny Women CIC to fund very special outreach campaign starting this autumn and into 2025. Details will go live on the website next week. 🎉 Next week we will also be launching a very special 'glittery' project taking place at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe - this is SO important to me so I will save the full story for when I have more time. ✨ Last but not least, and a lovely unexpected bonus, Funny Women has made it into the NatWest #SE100 list! We are included as one the UK’s top 100 social enterprises and I am quoted in this article here: https://lnkd.in/eJu_Rmsx 🤩 Thanks to Pioneers Post and NatWest Social & Community Capital (registered charity number: 1079626) for this recognition. Made my day and now I'm off for a lie down! 🙏 #funnywomen #funatwork #recognition

Comedy being taken seriously as a business, the facts. Well done to Jessica Toomey of the Live Comedy Association and Sharon Lockyer of Brunel University London for this important piece of research into our industry as reported by The Guardian. We have some AMAZING news! 🥳🎉🙌 BBC Comedy has awarded Funny Women funds for our new mentoring scheme for new acts coming to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe - The Glitter Project! The Glitter Project mentoring scheme has been created specifically for newer acts who are embarking on their fringe festival journey, helping them with anything from accessibility, resources, advice on performing at the fringe, pursuing a career in comedy and access to financial resources while they're in Edinburgh. We decided to create this scheme in honour of, Jo Fletcher-Cross who is a performer and non-exec director of Funny Women. On the eve of her Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2022, Jo was diagnosed with a grade four brain tumour. Anyone who knows Jo knows that there isn't anything that she loves more than glitter, so this project is our way of helping the many incredible performers that come to the festival each year and add some 'glitter' to their fringe journey and help out those who need it when a spanner is thrown in the works or it all becomes a bit too much. We'll be holding a number of in-person events, open mic shows throughout the Fringe, full details are on our website. https://lnkd.in/ecjrG6uN #funnywomen #edinburghfringe #bbccomedy #bbc
