As July came to a close we were busy celebrating two special colleague milestones here at G . F Smith 🌟 On Monday 29th July Chris O'Loughlin reached a remarkable 50 years of service - a feat that we believe no one else in living G . F Smith memory has achieved! If you've been on a tour of the G . F Smith factory, you've probably been lucky enough to have met Chris, who is usually found making beautiful handmade envelopes 💌 We held a surprise party for her at our Hull site, where Chris celebrated her milestone anniversary with cherished colleagues old and new (including over 40 G . F Smith retirees!) and her family. And if you haven't met Chris yet, don't worry - she may have 50 years in the bag but she has no plans to retire anytime soon. Thank you Chris, for all your hard work. We also celebrated the retirement of Lead Warehouse Operator, Clive Donkin, on Friday 26th July after an incredible decade of service with G . F Smith! By his own admission, this was the longest he had stayed with a business, and we are overjoyed to have held onto him for so long. Clive has kicked off his retirement with a bang, having already waved goodbye to Hull to pursue a long-time ambition of travelling the country with his wife and cat in their motorhome 🚐 We wish them well on their adventures. Today we’re celebrating the retirement of Bill Wrate after an incredible 39 years of service👏 Bill began his career at G . F Smith in October 1985, starting his journey in the Sample Room. He then spent time in the office providing superb customer service from the offset, and over time has gained icon status from nurturing long standing relationships with colleagues and customers alike. A fond time of Bill’s experience at G . F Smith was life out on the road as a paper rep - he covered the whole of London on his own 🚗 An absolute fountain of knowledge, there is nothing Bill doesn’t know about paper, print and production! Bill’s favourite part of his career has been working with his great colleagues past and present, and we are in unanimous agreement that the honour is all ours. Margaret Sweeney, Sales & Business Development Director, said of Bill “Thank you for giving a nervous office junior such a warm welcome on my first day 33 years ago. Thank you for always being there with a reassuring word. Thank you for your support and your much needed honesty. Thank you for all the laughs - laughter truly is a great medicine.
