We are pleased to announce we have signed a ground-breaking agreement with the UN’s Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to work together on #decarbonising the cement and #concrete industry, with a strong focus on the Global South. Speaking at the signing ceremony in Austria, Gerd Müller, Director General of UNIDO, said: “Cement and concrete are a vital part of resilient #infrastructure development. Decarbonizing the cement and concrete sectors worldwide is essential to reducing CO2 emissions and tackling climate change. The GCCA and its members are leading the way on doing so for this important global industry. Our UNIDO Member States face a number of technical, market-related and policy hurdles that make decarbonization commitments even more challenging. That is why I am very glad to sign this Memorandum of Understanding with the GCCA and start a new phase of closer cooperation that will help our Member States overcome those challenges.” Thomas Guillot, our CEO, said: “Through our #NetZero Roadmap and the accelerator programme we have put in place, we are already working with policymakers, governments and industry to overcome procurement and resourcing challenges across the global south. Having this ground-breaking agreement with UNIDO is a natural progression which we hope will fast-track progress in a meaningful way.” Find out more: https://lnkd.in/ex_fUFYF Rana Ghoneim

The trusted, authoritative global voice for the cement and concrete sector.
About us
The Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) is the global voice for cement and concrete - the most widely used man-made product on the planet. The GCCA and its members are committed to promoting the unique properties of concrete as a sustainable, durable and resilient building material – a material that will answer the needs of a growing and increasingly urban population that is set to exceed 9 billion people by 2050. The GCCA’s authoritative voice will help ensure that the prevailing views of cement and concrete are holistic and based on robust evidence. Alongside this global advocacy role, the GCCA will gather and publish data against the industry’s sustainability commitments as well as develop member guidelines and initiate research. This is being supported by the transfer of the Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI) activities to the GCCA under the strategic partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The GCCA work programme is organised along three dimensions: sustainability, innovation and the positioning of concrete. Sustainable development of our industry is at the very core of the GCCA’s work and has five pillars: safety & health, climate change & energy, social responsibility, environment & nature and circular economy. We want to drive responsible industry leadership in the manufacture and use of cement and concrete. We will strive to improve the global social and environmental impact of the sector’s activities and products. We aim to foster innovation and collaboration with industry associations and inspiring architects, engineers and innovators across the globe and along the length of the built-environment value chain. Concrete is more than a building material. It provides homes, it connects communities, it encourages trade, it provides energy, it improves health, it broadens minds.
