A major energy efficiency project gets underway this month at Glasgow Museums Resource Centre - the unique facility which houses millions of precious objects in the city’s Collections. Thanks to a grant of just over £1.5m from Scotland’s Public Sector Heat Decarbonisation Fund, works will be carried out to install solar panels, replace gas boilers with air source heat pumps, fit new windows, upgrade the electrical supply and building management controls, and complete building repairs to minimise heat loss. Enabling annual savings of around 156 tonnes of CO2, the project reflects Glasgow Life’s environmental sustainability strategy and ongoing commitment to achieve net zero goals. Chair of Glasgow Life Bailie Annette Christie, who also serves as chair of the Eurocities Social Affairs Forum, will today welcome 20 members of the European Heritage Hub to Glasgow to discuss the vital role of cultural heritage in driving positive environmental, digital and social change.   The Hub is an EU funded partnership project led by Eurocities and Europa Nostra bringing together destinations and key stakeholders from across Europe to share knowledge and best practice with the aim of creating a more sustainable, innovative and inclusive future for Europe’s cultural heritage ecosystem.   As part of their visit to the city, delegates will also hear from our Director of Culture, Tourism and Events, Billy Garrett about how Glasgow has used culture, tourism, heritage and events to address post-industrial decline and transform the city’s economy.   This will focus on the £68.25m refurbishment of the Burrell Collection and Glasgow City Council’s ongoing £15m project to redevelop the A-listed stables and sawmill in Pollok Country Park, which will create a net-zero carbon and world-class Heritage Centre and visitor attraction. Learning will also be used to inform the city’s redevelopment of the People’s Palace & Winter Gardens.   Click the link in the comments to find out more about the European Heritage Hub project 👇 #SharingLocalStories
