In July, we were delighted to convene ‘Harnessing AI for Pharmaceutical Innovation: A Public Policy Summit’ in Washington, DC, on behalf of Pfizer.   The series of panels and keynotes brought together policymakers, regulators, life science and healthcare companies, tech experts, patient groups, and researchers to explore approaches to AI in healthcare and beyond.   Some key insights from the panel discussion and keynotes:   💊 AI’s potential to unlock capabilities is already advancing processes across the healthcare spectrum, including drug development, clinical trials, and the pharmaceutical supply chain.   🌐 There is a growing need for international regulatory alignment and global cooperation in AI. Inconsistent regulations, principles and frameworks can undermine cross-border data sharing and global health initiatives.   👩🔬 It is important to build AI systems that prioritize patient care and place the patient at the centre. AI tools should assist with tasks like data analysis and administrative tasks, freeing up providers to spend more time with patients.   👨💻 The discussions highlighted the need to address AI-specific challenges, such as bias, transparency, explainability, change management, and accountability. For example, clarification on aspects such as who is responsible for AI-driven decisions, especially when they lead to adverse patient outcomes.   A huge thank you to our speakers who made the event a success, and hosts National Foreign Trade Council for use of their fantastic venue. #AIinHealthcare #PharmaInnovation #Events

📄 NEW REPORT - Accelerating the delivery of clean electricity: Five focus areas to deliver on the UK's Clean Energy Mission for 2030 Delivering the new government’s 2030 Mission will enable the UK to show global leadership, generate new economic opportunities across the country and reduce our reliance on imported fossils fuels. But to deliver on 2030 will require a step change in intent, policy and regulation. Launched today, this report drafted by GC and commissioned by SSE plc considers the priority actions required to achieve Labour’s ambition of power decarbonisation by 2030. It proposes five areas where intervention by the new government will be most vital to deliver on 2030: 1️⃣ Creating a central strategic delivery plan to bring together strategic energy infrastructure plans with policy and regulation to address barriers and maximise economic opportunities. 2️⃣ Accelerating planning and consenting to ensure that the identified infrastructure can be delivered on time. 3️⃣ Demonstrating big ambition on renewables to deliver sufficient investment and capacity and support the supply chain. 4️⃣ Securing dispatchable low carbon power to facilitate the transition away from unabated gas and support the urgent deployment of CCS and hydrogen infrastructure. 5️⃣ Setting out a focused market reform programme to support investment in low carbon infrastructure and deliver consumer value. Taken together, action in these areas can enable the government to make progress at pace, using the 2030 goal to deliver greater momentum in the next five years than in the previous fifteen. Investors have noted a marked shift in the nature of political risk. Amidst complex US-China relations, regional conflicts, and electoral upsets, what were once pockets of isolated issues have often coalesced into consistent trends of political disruption that weigh on their decision-making. The FT makes the case that the world is going through “not just a temporary bout of political volatility, but a structural shift that will have a long-term impact on the investment world” (https://on.ft.com/3SiXXs3). Global Counsel is a strategic advisory firm that helps corporates navigate this niche space. Its model of political advisory has gained renewed focus in this climate, and I was fortunate to have been a part of its Singapore Office for the past three months to see this at work. In my time here, I not only did regular monitoring work for clients, but also got to put my hands on new projects. This included political due diligence work for major private equity takeovers that looked at AML/KYC frameworks and policy direction in certain markets. I also researched financial regulations in Asia for a fintech firm seeking to expand here and contributed to client presentations. The work here has left me with greater strategic awareness and much greater curiosity about the world around me. Truly grateful to Andrew Yeo Marissa Lee 黎善芮 Nicholas Lee Dedi Dinarto Jiayu Li Herwen Tay and my fellow intern Josiah Garcia — it has been such a joy working with this sharp and vibrant team.
