Our Vision: To be recognised as one of the leading environmental service providers in West London and across the Capital

About us

Greener Ealing Ltd launched in July 2020 as Ealing Council's new refuse and recycling provider. The service has been brought back under control of Ealing Council, following the end of its contract with its previous provider. This followed a decision that was approved by the council’s cabinet, which agreed to the founding of a local authority company (LAC) to deliver environmental services across the borough.

🎬 Lights, Camera, Action! 🎬 While we may not rival the legendary Ealing Studios, we recently transformed our Greenford depot into a movie set! With a frontline team of over 300, maintaining rigorous health and safety standards is non-negotiable. But keeping the messaging fresh and engaging can be a challenge. That’s why our Head of H&S, Sandra Hewey, decided to shake things up. Enter Gillan Williams from Clarity Video, who joined us at the depot this week to film a series of ‘Close Calls’ videos to encourage colleagues to report hazards and avoid accidents. We enlisted our own team members as the stars of these videos, making the experience fun and relatable. How do you keep your health and safety messages engaging? We'd love to know your ideas💡 #HealthAndSafety #WorkplaceSafety #EmployeeEngagement

Every month Greener Ealing Ltd recognises one of its team who goes above and beyond and embodies our 4 core #values: ♻️ Committed ♻️ Collaborative ♻️ Caring ♻️ Customer comes first. July's Employee of the Month is Barry Williams nominated for his quick response to a difficult situation. We received a report that smoke had been spotted in the general waste bay at a recycling centre. The fire brigade asked Greener Ealing Ltd to provide access to the loading shovel, a vehicle which is used to move waste. Barry answered that call and rushed to help by moving waste material away from the fire to prevent a larger issue developing. His actions were praised by the London Fire Brigade. We’re not sure how the fire started but there was heat generated by soil waste and compost piles can self-ignite in certain conditions. Combine this with other combustible materials such as paint or batteries (which shouldn’t be thrown away with general household waste for this very reason) and this might be the cause. The fire was extinguished without injury or damage thanks to Barry’s quick response. He embodies our values and desire to do our best for the borough of Ealing. Thank you Barry. 😁

Greener Ealing Ltd encourages our people to learn new skills throughout their careers. Three of our apprentices – Evelina Barauska, Adam Mannas and Barbara Zambolin – recently put their classroom learning into action when they headed to Spencer Street playground in Southall. The three are studying for a horticulture qualification at Capel Manor College as part of their development while working for Greener Ealing Ltd. They put their newly acquired skills into action by measuring out the new bed and preparing it for planting, which included removing turf and adding mushroom compost to the soil. Once the area was ready, they planted the shrubs and have been visiting regularly to water and weed the bed. We're delighted to congratulate Barbara Zambolin, Grounds Maintenance for Greener Ealing Ltd, on her recent award win. She was crowned Horticulture Apprentice of the Year. Barbara has been studying for a Horticulture Level 2 #apprenticeship as part of her role with Greener Ealing. She was nominated by her tutor Alison Bond of Capel Manor College, an environmental college in London, for her perseverance and positive attitude to tackling challenges during the course. Alison says, “Many people would have given up, but Barbara kept going. She asked for support where she needed it, and her attitude has shone through. I'd like to thank everyone at Greener Ealing Ltd for their support of Barbara. The award is a recognition of the employer's contribution towards the apprentice's education, as well as the hard work of the apprentice.” Apprenticeships are a valuable way to learn new skills, which is why Greener Ealing offers these opportunities to our team. “Greener Ealing Ltd is committed to offering apprenticeships and other learning and development opportunities for sound business reasons. We believe that enhanced knowledge and skills can make our staff more confident in the job that they are doing and this will ultimately improve the quality of the services we provide,” explains Bill Gilmour, Head of HR and Comms. Led by Ealing Council (London Borough of Ealing) we are a group of local Ealing companies who are London Living Wage accredited and we’re keen for others to join us. 👋 Paid work is a way out of poverty but working households often struggle to pay bills and afford essentials. Paying a Living Wage, an hourly rate of pay currently set at £13.15, can make a difference. It’s calculated to reflect the high cost of living in the city so people can afford the basics and have the chance to save some money too. “Greener Ealing Ltd is committed to being a living wage employer and paying the London Living Wage from day one. We believe that fair pay is morally right and makes sound business sense. We know we can only achieve our objectives through the efforts of our staff working together and fair pay lets every individual employee know that their contribution is valued,” says Zahra Ghaderi, an HR adviser for Greener Ealing Ltd, who recently attended a networking breakfast to connect with other local companies. To encourage Ealing-based businesses to sign up, Ealing Council is offering a range of incentives to the first 250 companies to sign up by March 2025 including: ⭐ A dedicated Business Buddy to support you with access to council services and advice ⭐ Business grants to cover the first year of accreditation costs ⭐ Free recruitment services ⭐ Free business planning support ⭐ Free training and development programme for employees ⭐ Free promotional opportunities to showcase your business For information about these incentives email: [email protected]. With a change of UK government, it’s interesting to see flexible working is back in the news with campaigners for a four-day working week asking companies to sign up for a pilot project starting in November. Greener Ealing Ltd has long understood the benefits of giving people options and we are a family-friendly employer. Our people can request flexible hours, part time contracts, term-time only working and job share opportunities. Recent long service award recipient Justin Tanner, who has 25 years continual service, cites his job satisfaction as partly derived from the flexibility we offer. Justin has been able to pick his children up from school, collect his wife from work and be there to share family meals. We’re also keen to encourage women to join Environmental Services, a traditionally male-dominated industry, because we value a diverse workforce.
