We help young people succeed through sport and team spirit

About us

Greenhouse Sports believes in the power of sport to raise the aspirations of young people and help them reach their full potential. We are a London-based charity, partnering with schools to deliver full-time, high-quality sport programmes that give young people the chance to experience structure, goal-setting, teamwork, a sense of achievement and mutual respect. Since 2002, over 40,000 young people have participated on our programmes, working with qualified coaches who are technically skilled in addition to being excellent role models and mentors. Through the relationships developed with participants, our coaches are able to effect change in the long-term development of their social, thinking, emotional and physical skills. We believe that every young person should have the opportunity to thrive. To find out more on how we use sport to inspire people, visit www.greenhousesports.org

Three years ago, we took a bold step forward by introducing full-time Greenhouse coaches into primary schools, allowing us to reach young people earlier and provide crucial early intervention.   Why? Because working with primary students gives us the opportunity to build the foundations for their future success. Our brilliant coach-mentors do this by helping develop essential social, emotional, thinking, and physical skills. Additionally, they work closely with our secondary school programmes to ease young people's transition as they move on to the next stage of their education.   This impactful work would not be possible without the incredible support of our partners. That's why we’re excited to announce a new two-year partnership with 3i Group plc! Their funding will enable us to continue placing dedicated coaches in primary schools, giving hundreds of children access to the transformative support of a Greenhouse coach ❤️   Thank you, 3i Group plc, for being an essential part of our #TeamForLife!

In just two weeks, one of our champion challenge fundraisers Simon Dent will tackle one of the globe’s toughest ultra-marathons, racing to raise vital funds to support our young people 🏃♂️💪 Simon is taking on the iconic Dragon's Back Race, a gruelling 380km run along the mountainous spine of Wales. The race takes place from September 2 to 7, and, as well as the distance, competitors face a total elevation of 16,400m and a perilous traversal over extreme terrain. This is the fourth year in a row Simon has set himself increasingly difficult ultra challenges for Greenhouse Sports. It's utterly inspirational and you can support his mission here! 📚 https://lnkd.in/esWpReST Go Simon, Greenhouse is behind you! We’re so grateful for your support and the years you've given us ❤️ #TeamForLife

While the world watched the Games in Paris, we had the pleasure of helping out with Bloomberg BOBlympics – a celebration of Bloomberg's philanthropic culture. We were thrilled to run several sessions – involving everyone from our young people, to coaches, to office staff – harnessing the powerful spirit of partnership we share with Bloomberg.    Bloomberg doesn't just support us; their employees actively volunteer, diving into schools and engaging directly with our programmes. This firsthand involvement allows them to be a part of the transformative impact of sport with our coach-mentors – plus, they also learn a thing or two from our young people!   A standout initiative made possible by Bloomberg’s support is our Positive Transitions Programme – a project that supports young people’s mental health during the challenging transition from primary to high school. Just like it takes a village to raise a child, our 'Team for Life' — made up of parents, coaches, schools, and supporters — is committed to levelling the playing field, enabling young people to thrive beyond the medals and off the court. As Greenhouse Sports conclude our "Beyond the Medal" series, we look forward to the next incredible display of global sport—the Paralympics! We'll continue to draw inspiration and celebrate achievements in all arenas of sport, highlighting the extraordinary talents and perseverance of Paralympic athletes. #BOBlympics #ImpactInAction #BeyondTheMedal #TeamForLife

We’ve loved watching all the Olympic volleyball action! At Greenhouse Sports, our volleyball programmes highlight a core value of the Olympics—friendship.   It’s heartening to see the strong bonds and friendships that form through our volleyball programmes. They are especially effective at engaging girls, creating a supportive community that unites young people from all corners of the school, ages 12 to 17. Our volleyball programmes flourish thanks to the support of partners like The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust. Since their involvement began in 2020, they have been instrumental in enabling us to enhance our outreach and impact. As the Olympic Village in Paris supports athletes, we celebrate our village. Just like it takes a village to raise a child, our 'Team for Life'—made up of parents, coaches, schools, and supporters—is committed to levelling the playing field, helping young people to thrive beyond the medals and off the court. #BeyondTheMedal #TeamForLife

As the world enjoys the Olympic Games, we've been thrilled to watch Katie Boulter, our Greenhouse Ambassador, compete! Katie is a true inspiration to our young people; she actively takes the time to meet them and encourages them to stay active and pursue their passion for tennis. We’re proud to run tennis programmes in schools located within some of London's most deprived boroughs—a feat made possible only with the support of the LTA Tennis Foundation. Their help has enabled our coach-mentors to make tennis far more accessible. Plus, the LTA has provided our young people with once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, such as participating in the coin toss at Queens!   As the Olympic Village in Paris supports athletes, we celebrate our own village. Just like it takes a village to raise a child, our 'Team for Life'—made up of parents, coaches, schools, and supporters—is committed to levelling the playing field, enabling young people to thrive beyond the medals and off the court. #BeyondTheMedal #TeamForLife

In the spirit of the Olympics, which celebrates not only competition but also the joy of discovering new talents and passions, our multisports programmes introduce primary children to a range of sports. Here, young people explore and identify what they love, supported every step of the way by our passionate primary coach-mentors. Our multisports programmes are more than just activities; they encourage a lifelong love for sport and all its benefits. In 2021, we made the exciting leap into primary schools. This wouldn’t have been possible without the support from our partners, like JanusHenderson Investors Their incredible backing ensures that we can begin positively influencing young lives from an early age.

When it comes to mental resilience, table tennis is one of the most challenging sports. Did you know that Table Tennis Olympians can face around 140,000 balls a month through hours and hours of training!? Just like these Olympians, our coach-mentors dedicate countless hours to supporting young people – before, during, and after school – and even now during the summer break. They’re always there. But we couldn’t do this without our incredible supporters. Thanks to your generosity, and amazing partners like players of People's Postcode Lottery—who are an invaluable part of our Team for Life—children across London, Leicester, and Portsmouth now have access to thousands of hours of table tennis coaching every month! As the Olympic Village in Paris supports athletes, we are celebrating our village. Just like it takes a village to raise a child, our 'Team for Life'—made up of parents, coaches, schools, and supporters—is committed to levelling the playing field, enabling young people to thrive beyond the medals and off the court. #BeyondTheMedal #TeamForLife

In 2021, the Olympic motto was expanded to include "together," emphasising the incredible power of sports to unite us and highlighting the essential role of teamwork—a core value that drives our basketball programmes. We proudly run over 40 basketball programmes, which, along with our hubs, make us one of the largest youth basketball providers in the UK. But what makes Greenhouse special? It’s our 'Team for Life.' It’s not just the team on the court but also the lifelong team that supports our young people's brightest futures. A key player in our ‘Team for Life’ is Blackstone, a supporter who has deeply believed in and backed our mission for years. Thanks to Blackstone's support, we've been able to expand our reach and impact.
