Next week, Dr Paul Toyne, Head of Sustainability at Grimshaw, will take part in the Construction News Decarbonising Construction conference — a virtual event focusing on strategies for reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly construction methods. On July 16 Minoro will take centre stage — a newly launched online platform that for the first time has collated and centralises the latest international guidance, methodologies, and policies on carbon management, linking resources to actions that will help decarbonise both new and existing buildings. The North London Heat and Power Project hits a milestone this month with the opening of the new public recycling facilities. This represents over £150 million investment that secures the new facilities and supports seven boroughs in North London. The project is transforming Edmonton EcoPark into a waste hub for residents as well as creating opportunity for greater community engagement and education about waste and circular economy principles. The design includes north London’s largest solar array, generating 215,000Kwh of energy and will take Eco Park house — a community centre, completing later this year — off-grid. It’s one week on from the Big Build day of the Royal Albert Hall Associate Artists x Grimshaw Foundation education programme — Performance. Architecture. Design. Over 150 students from eight schools across London have, over six months, worked with the spoken word artist Rhael 'LionHeart' Cape Hon FRIBA, saxophonist Jess Gillam, organist and conductor Anna Lapwood and choreographer Corey Baker, immersing themselves in hands-on creative and making workshops, learning about the creative industries of dance, music, performance, architecture, and design. Inspired by each artist, this programme has enabled young people to explore how spaces can support, elevate and shape performance and explored the Royal Albert Hall, as a place, and all the elements and professions — from acoustics and lighting, to set design and sound — that create memorable experiences. It’s been an amazing experience for the students and the volunteers, fulfilling the Grimshaw Foundation mission to, through working with young people and schools, help foster a curious and creative approach and create better access to, and more diversity in, creative careers. Minoro is live! Launched this week, Minoro is a new online platform that for the first time centralises over a 1000 policies, standards, guidance and methodologies to help accelerate the decarbonisation of buildings. Whether you are an asset owner, investor, architect, consultant, contractor or building operator Minoro is now the source of information help create clear carbon reduction pathways across the lifecycle of buildings. An international resource, and free to use, the platform has been developed by Grimshaw in collaboration with over 20 supporting organisations — including the WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, RIBA, Architecture 2030, the World Green Building Council and several national Green Building Councils across the globe. At Friday’s Australian Institute of Architects NSW Chapter Awards, the Parramatta Aquatic Centre was awarded the Sulman Medal – the highest honour for public architecture in NSW. The new Centre, opened in September of 2023 and already surpassing all expectations for patronage, was also awarded the Award for Urban Design. Parramatta Aquatic Centre redefines the typology of the public pool as the design effectively submerges the building in the landscape, the world heritage listed Parramatta Park. It includes multiple indoor and outdoor recreational swimming pools, wellness and recreation facilities and community access on an unprecedented level to its public and open spaces. The Parramatta Aquatic Centre is a design collaboration between Grimshaw and Andrew Burges Architects, with landscape architecture by McGregor Coxall. La passerelle Robert Poujade à Toulouse, conçue par Grimshaw et ppa•architectures dans le cadre d'un groupement dirigé par Eiffage et comprenant Ingérop, Atelier ATP et Quartiers Lumières, a été inaugurée le week-end dernier par Jean-Luc Moudenc, maire de Toulouse. Faisant partie du projet d'aménagement urbain du Grand Parc Garonne mené par la Métropole de Toulouse, la passerelle, accessible aux piétons et aux cyclistes, est l'un des quatres ponts qui relieront à terme l'Île du Ramier et la ville, offrant des itinéraires accessibles à tous à travers le nouveau « poumon vert » de la ville sur la Garonne.   Franchissement de 160 mètres au dessus de la Garonne, la passerelle à haubans est définie par un mât en acier en forme de V inversé de 60 mètres de haut qui semble émerger de la végétation telle une porte d'entrée vers l'île. Soon to be opened, Martin Place Metro station is the design feature in The Australian Financial Review magazine today. “Martin Place will be the jewel in Metro’s crown” says NSW Transport Minister Jo Haylen. One of Australia’s largest unsolicited proposals, this private public partnership has been delivered by Macquarie Group, with design/build by Lendlease for Sydney Metro and the NSW Government. Grimshaw is lead architect for the project, Australia’s most fully integrated station development, The station comprises five underground floors featuring new hospitality, retail and service offerings, opening up new pedestrian routes through the heart of Sydney’s central business district. Above ground, two towers: 39 Martin Place by Tzannes Architects and No. 1 Elizabeth Street by JPW complete the project. The rise of the Matariki stars marks the start of the Māori New Year, Matariki in Aotearoa New Zealand. At sunrise on 27 June, to coincide with the Matariki celebrations in Tamaki Makaurau Auckland, a formal blessing of the Sky Element façade of Te Waihorotiu Station takes place, attended by the Link Alliance delivery partners and Mana Whenua representatives of the eight local Iwis involved in the project. The spectacular façade of the building, featuring the work of Maori artist Graham Tipene presents one of many aspects of the traditional (Mana Whenua) knowledge that is present throughout the City Rail Link Ltd project. Te Waihorotiu station, the mid-City focal point of the forthcoming Auckland City Rail Link, is a component of the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken in New Zealand. Grimshaw provides architecture and design services to the Link Alliance in collaboration with WSP. City Rail Link is expected to be completed by November 2025, bringing unprecedented benefits to Auckland’s public transport system. #matariki #manawhenua
