Helping local, low-income families celebrate Christmas together by providing food and goodies.

About us

Our appeals are driven by the need for families to spend quality time together. We want to give those experiencing crisis a hamper filled with food, goodies and hope so they might have enough to celebrate and give thanks for. Our projects are built on the partnership between churches, charities, businesses, agencies and community groups. Each group brings a unique and valuable contribution that helps draw families together at a critical time of year. Our projects are fuelled by the time, talent and compassion of hundreds of individual volunteers. For many who can’t afford a regular weekly commitment, the chance to give just one day a year to help the community is a really popular opportunity.

Deputy Mayor, George Farquhar, joined hundreds of volunteers and drivers on Friday 22nd December in Bournemouth’s annual Hamper Appeal. 200 families in need across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole received an extra special surprise to help them celebrate Christmas, without the added financial burden of providing a nutritious Christmas Dinner. Months of planning came to a head as nearly 200 volunteers descended on to Citygate Church to help create, pack and deliver 200 hampers, ultimately feeding 778 people. Deputy Mayor, George Farquhar, met with volunteers and helped load the 70+ cars, which dispersed across BCP to deliver food, joy and hope at Christmas. George Farquhar, Deputy Mayor, commented, “it’s an amazing effort and fantastic to get involved and be part of this fantastic initiative.” Ed Briggs, founder of the Hamper Appeal, commented. “I’d like to thank every volunteer who came and gave their time in this extraordinary effort. Hundreds of struggling people will now have a little bit of relief and joy over the festive period.” The Hamper Appeal is a registered charity based out of Citygate Church in Bournemouth. Each Hamper contains enough food for three days and feeds a family of four, plus seasonal treats. To find out more, donate or get involved for next year, please visit hamperappeal.org. Over the past six years, the Christmas Hamper Appeal has delivered a staggering 1,200 hampers to families in need in Bournemouth. In the previous year alone, a remarkable partnership of 85 organisations provided three days' worth of nourishment and seasonal delights to 721 individuals. These hampers have served as a lifeline, enabling families to create cherished moments together that would have otherwise been impossible due to the financial strain of putting food on the table. The impact goes beyond a simple meal; it extends to the joy of inviting loved ones to join the festivities, all made possible through the invaluable support of others. Please support us through donations, support or volunteers. Take a look at what we did behind-the-scenes in 2023. Our aim is to grow the Hamper Appeal across a wider area of the UK, so that more families can enjoy the holiday seasons without worrying about money. https://lnkd.in/g_gyswnx Video credit: Richard King
