Today is International Strange Music Day, and Head Hatter Sarah isn’t a fan of some of the music that the team plays in the office. After years of relentlessly playing Drake, Luke has found an irritating new love for The 1975 and Radiohead, (we wonder why!) If it was up to Kathleen, the office would be playing Taylor Swift 24/7. Zara is a big fan of Lily Allen, whilst Leah enjoys an emotional cut from Nessa Barrett.  Hannah lives and breathes My Chemical Romance, whilst strangely Dan enjoys some classic Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, apparently the work he did on 1683’s Fidicinium Sacro-Profanum is wonderful.  Sarah has to deal with all this when she just wants to listen to P!NK, but she says it’s worth it to see our smiling faces. I've been reflecting on lots of things lately, and one of those is our business birthday. 4 years ago, I was at a crossroads. I was deeply disappointed with the way many of the businesses in this industry operated, dismayed at the practices that seemed to be commonplace among marketing agencies, and determined not to be complicit in misleading clients. This was in 2020, after the 1st lockdown and in the midst of the 'Eat Out to Help Out' initiative; we knew that more lockdowns and hardships were coming. At the time, I had no idea how the pandemic would impact my own family. A lot has happened in the past 4 years. Some of it good, some of it awful. I've made so many new friends through the business, been blessed to welcome some truly beautiful people through our doors, and been surrounded by the most wonderful, loyal, funny, and dedicated team. I've been hurt and let down by people I trusted and shouldn't, but thanks to them I have learned some important lessons. The business has had its ups and downs, but the one thing that has never faltered is our focus on looking after our customers. We take as much pride today in being honest, open, and transparent as we did the day we opened. It might not make us rich, but it makes us happy. This is a huge thank you to each and every person who has been part of our journey so far. Whether you're a past or current client, a friend, or one of the people who taught me an important lesson, thank you for being part of our story. When I set out to build this business, I would never have dreamed that we'd have achieved all that we have in a few short years, and I am so excited to see what happens next. Head Hatter Sarah here. I was going to sit down this afternoon and write a post celebrating the fact that Hatter's is 4 years old today, but it feels wrong to do that right now. Most people will be aware that Hatter's is very proudly based in Southport. It's the place I have called home for over 20 years, and I'm incredibly proud to be able to contribute to the economy and community of this town that I love.  Today, something horrific happened in our town. So far, we don't have all the facts, but we know enough to know that what happened will have far reaching and devastating consequences for many local people, and is likely to live in the national psyche for years to come.  I don't know how to express the deep sadness within me at the news I am hearing, but I felt it was important to mark this day as a dark moment not only in Southport's history, but in our collective history as thinking and feeling human beings.

The team have been playing one of Dan's new board games “Read The Room”. One question heavily split the team.  “Does ketchup belong in the fridge?” We have had Head Hatter Sarah say only weirdos put ketchup in the fridge and an ever so slight overreaction from Kathleen who considers it a “criminal offence”.
