🧠 An AI tool, developed using brain scans from the whole Scottish population, aims to predict a person’s risk of dementia. Data scientists and clinical researchers from The University of Edinburgh and The University of Dundee will use a large, anonymised dataset of 1.6 million CT and MRI brain scan images from patients in Scotland. The project, called Scottish AI in Neuroimaging to predict Dementia and Neurodegenerative Disease (SCAN-DAN), is one of three ‘pathfinders’ from global research collaboration NEURii, supported by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK) and: - Eisai EMEA - Gates Ventures - The University of Edinburgh - LifeArc ➡️ Learn more: https://hubs.li/Q02MHswc0

Accurate ethnicity data in electronic health records is crucial for better understanding and addressing health inequalities. For the first time, researchers led by Professor Sara Khalid at University of Oxford, NDORMS and supported by the BHF Data Science Centre studied the ethnicity data in the NHS records of over 60 million people. They assessed the quality of the ethnicity data and reconciled various coding schemes into consistent hierarchy and categories. “It is hoped that the data curated in this work can be used by future researchers including ethnicity in their work and ultimately contribute towards closing the gaps in healthcare,” said Professor Khalid.
