The new health secretary has been named as Wes Streeting, who has served as shadow health secretary since November of 2021, and who has been consistently vocal on the need for the modernisation of the NHS. In terms of health tech, Labour hopes to oversee a move away from “late diagnosis and treatment”, to a model which sees more services delivered in the community, harnessing the power of technologies such as AI to “transform the speed and accuracy of diagnostic services”, and ensuring that prevention is the focus of the entire health system. With the results of the 2024 general election placing Keir Starmer as Prime Minister, this feature from Health Tech News takes a look at what this might mean for the NHS. Looking in detail at Labour’s manifesto, it sets out a vision of the NHS as “once again at the cutting edge of healthcare”. Acknowledging the challenges facing the NHS, including pandemic stresses and winter pressures, the manifesto states that their ambition “goes beyond returning the NHS to what it was. Labour’s mission is to build an NHS fit for the future. Investment alone won’t be enough to tackle the problems facing the NHS; it must go hand in hand with fundamental reform.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/evqBZZB9 #generalelection #NHS

Healthcare Communications MD, Kenny Bloxham, reflected on the current health tech landscape in this new feature from Health Tech News: “Like many industries, the election has created a short period of uncertainty, and we’re keen for the new government to be formed,” Kenny said, noting a need to be able to “pivot towards supporting key priorities for healthcare with digital enablers” and added that it is “encouraging” to see a digital-first approach for patient engagement feature in political party manifestos. “Since NHSE has driven patient engagement portals and integration into the NHS App across secondary care, this has kept the market focused. As projects are deployed, and consolidation is achieved the market will start to address what else can be done to further enhance digital patient engagement." "Inclusive patient experiences need to be much higher on the agenda. Progress has been made but equitable access is an urgent crisis in the UK. We intend to continue striving forward with further enhancements to our multi-channel approach for communications to help patients overcome daily challenges in accessing healthcare.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/ejiEZkMT
