Goliath, meet your match. We're pleased to share that our Senior Vice President, Paul Austin, LLM, will be speaking at the upcoming Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime. He will be part of the "David & Goliath Unbound" workshop, addressing new approaches to holding banks accountable in #fraud cases. Paul will discuss creative ways to create leverage in parallel to the #legal process to apply pressure and drive settlements in the most complex of financial cases. We look forward to the insights Paul and his fellow panellists will bring as they challenge the status quo in banking fraud accountability.

The United Kingdom's Labour Party, led by Sir Keir Starmer, has won a landslide victory in the country's general election, winning 412 seats in the Parliament compared to the incumbent Conservative Party's 121. The result follows a six-week election campaign that was marked by voter frustration with the Conservative Party after 14 years in power.  Here are four things you need to know about the result:

Crisis? What crisis? Authentic leadership, stakeholder engagement and clear-headed prioritisation were just some of the themes we discussed at this morning’s panel discussion "Mastering the Message: Crisis Communications Preparation and Tactics for Leaders". It was a great pleasure to sit alongside fellow panellists Bella von Bohlen and Adam Fresco as we each reflected on some of the issues and crises we have advised on in our careers and the lessons we have learnt along the way. A big thank you to our expert chair Madeleine Weightman and our co-hosts The Work Crowd, Hanson Search and the PRCA. Today #SouthAfrica wakes up to a new era in its multi-racial democracy.   For the first time since the 1994 election that marked the end of apartheid, the ANC failed to win a parliamentary majority in last month’s election. It was forced to form alliances with other parties in a government of national unity – a humbling moment for the party and turning point for the nation.   South Africa’s new national unity government will theoretically ensure representation in government for all participating parties, with decisions being made by consensus. Will it work?   Despite the success of patching together a coalition in such a short time, the challenges for President Ramaphosa and his new partners in government remain profound. Here are three key takeaways on the South African elections from Highgate’s Senior Vice President, Alastair Sloan, and Vice President, Ileana Konialidis.

Highgate was thrilled to host our Summer Party at this year’s stunning Serpentine Pavilion designed by South Korean architect Minsuk Cho. Ukrainian musicians Kugatessa and Kiana Nastya and Parisian celebrity magician David Jarre entertained over 200 guests with inspirational music and masterful trickery. Entrepreneurs, philanthropists, business leaders, lawyers, diplomats, politicians, military and intelligence experts were among those who gathered to celebrate Highgate’s four years. A big thank you to everyone who joined us at the extraordinary Serpentine Pavilion for our Summer Party. We had a wonderful evening, despite the rain, and look forward to welcoming you and others to future Highgate events.

Massive crowd at the #URC #Ukraine #Recovery #Conference in #Berlin today. Chancelor Scholz just made a big announcement about providing additional air defense support to Ukraine. From discussions with many Ukrainian friends, the two main challenges facing Ukrainian companies are 1) lack of workers because of military conscription 2) lack of electricity following the destruction of 9GW production facilities by Russia. HIGHGATE is actively and proudly supporting and working for the Ukrainian government as well as several local and international companies operating in the country. #StandWithUkraine

Achieving gender equality and tackling the underrepresentation of women in STEM are not just social imperatives but essential drivers for innovation and progress.    HIGHGATE is proud to have supported the Global Engineer Girls (GEG) last weekend for their Annual International Gathering in #Istanbul, which brought together participants from Türkiye, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Saudi Arabia for three days of workshops, panels and networking. The event aimed to strengthen the bonds among these young women, allowing them to share their experiences and inspire one another. As strategic advisors to GEG and Limak Group of Companies, we are proud to have played a role in shaping this initiative and the overall organisation of this gathering.     Founded in 2015, GEG is a philanthropic initiative that aims to inspire the next generation of women leaders in engineering. To date, GEG has supported over 1200 young women with scholarships, mentorship, internships and career opportunities, as well as training programs and soft skills development. By supporting initiatives like GEG, we believe we are contributing to a more equitable and sustainable future and we are committed to fostering #inclusivity and #diversity in all spheres of life.

On the 14 May, despite weeks of protests, the parliament of the Republic of Georgia passed a controversial law on “foreign agents”. The bill requires NGOs and media that receive foreign funding to register with the government as “pursuing the interests of a foreign power”.   The bill follows democratic backsliding in Georgia. The last elections, held in 2020, were deemed the “least free” under ruling party Georgian Dream. Opposition parties faced significant restrictions and opposition leaders were, and are, in jail. There is also continued concern over the power of Bidzina Ivanishvili, oligarch, former Prime Minister, and now Chairman of Georgian Dream. Ivanishvili made his money in Russia and has been increasingly critical of the west.   The bill’s passing and general concern over the political direction of the country resulted in thousands of protesters again taking to the streets of Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital, facing riot police and tear gas. Protesters have branded it the “Russia law” due to its similarity to a 2012 Russian bill that has been used by Moscow to suppress critics and shutter civil society groups and independent media.   Here are five things you need to know about the protests from Highgate Associate Director and former Tbilisi resident Miranda Alsop.
