UK INFRASTRUCTURE BANK, CENTRICA & PARTNERS INVEST £300M IN HIGHVIEW POWER CLEAN ENERGY STORAGE PROGRAMME TO BOOST UK’S ENERGY SECURITY Today’s investment will enable the construction of one of the world’s largest long duration energy storage (LDES) facilities in Carrington, Manchester, using Highview Power’s proprietary LAES technology. Once complete, it will have a storage capacity of 300 MWh and an output power of 50 MW per hour for six hours. Construction will begin on the site immediately, with the facility operational in 2026, supporting over 700 jobs in construction and the supply chain. Richard Butland, Co-Founder & CEO of Highview Power: “There is no energy transition without storage. The UK’s investment in world-leading offshore wind and renewables requires a national long duration energy storage programme to capture excess wind and support the grids transformation. UKIB and Centrica and our partners have today backed our ambitious plan to bring renewable energy storage into the UK economy at scale, liberating the potential of what is both the greenest and by far the cheapest energy source for the UK economy and provide energy security. Our first project in Carrington will be the foundation for our full scale roll-out in the UK and expansion with partners to share this British technology internationally.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eTW_sYXs #highviewpower #longdurationenergy #ldes #liquidairenergy #centrica #ukib #carrington #goldmansachs #riotinto #kirkbi #laes #netzero #energystorage

We are delighted to announce that we have signed a long-term contract with AXISCADES subsidiary EPCOGEN Private Limited, a leader in technology and engineering solutions. Epcogen began Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for Highview Power's Carrington Project, the world’s largest Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) facility, in mid-2022, whilst also performing pre-engineering activities (Process Detailing, Technical Safety, Static, Rotary, Piping, Civil & Structural, Electrical, Instruments, and Telecom) until 2024. CEO and MD of AXISCADES, Mr. Arun Krishnamurthi, said "We are excited to partner with Highview Power on this transformative and pioneering project. This contract represents a significant opportunity to enhance our engineering proficiency and strengthen our commitment to supporting innovative energy solutions that drive sustainability and efficiency. This collaboration is an example of Epcogen and AXISCADES’ combined capabilities in delivering complex engineering solutions. We look forward to contributing to the success of the Carrington Power Project and other future initiatives with Highview Power." “Batteries clearly have their place in the two-four-hour storage market but can’t provide the sort of longer-duration storage as well as the grid-stability services that large industrial customers demand.” Highview Power CEO, Richard Butland. Richard recently spoke to Angela Macdonald-Smith from the The Australian Financial Review on the key role Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) has to play in Australia. Liquid air is amongst the emerging technologies which are not yet deployed in Australia - as they make efforts to overcome the “droughts” in generation that plague supply and affordability in winter, when the wind does not blow, and the sun does not shine. “Highview’s process uses excess energy to cryogenically liquefy and store ambient air in the tanks. When the energy is needed the liquefied air is reheated and run through a steam turbine to return the power to the grid. It has proposed a 12-hour storage plant in the Northern Territory, and has linked with Rio Tinto to examine using the technology at the miner’s operations, with a focus on Western Australia and Queensland.” Subscribers can read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eRcF77wu #AlwaysOn #RenewableEnergy #LongDurationEnergyStorage #LiquidAir #Australia #ReshapingRenewables

To meet demand growth and decarbonise, we need unencumbered access to clean energy. At Highview Power, we’ve developed a unique yet proven solution to enable the transition to 247.365, secure, agile, clean energy. We make renewables more flexible, responsive and dependable to energise businesses, communities and nations worldwide. We do that by providing responsive demand, long duration energy storage, synchronous generation and independent grid stabilisation services in a single, holistic solution. We call this Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES). Because renewables themselves can’t respond to demand, our solution captures excess energy when it’s generated, refrigerates and stores it as liquid air, for up to days or even weeks at a time, until it’s needed to power a turbine and dispatch clean energy on demand. Meanwhile an independent stability island provides the essential balancing services this new net zero grid model requires. And uniquely, we can do all this simultaneously.

THE PROBLEMS WE SOLVE... INTERMITTENCY, RELIANCE ON FOSSIL FUELS, CURTALIMENT & GRID STABILITY. Here is our latest infographic, which explains how our liquid air energy storage (LAES) works. LAES captures excess renewable energy helping reduce curtailment, it tackles intermittency by storing energy that can then be released when the win isn't blowing & the sun isn't shining. This provides the grid with stability, improving energy security and helping us reach #NetZero.
