There is a #greenskills gap and we don’t currently have the knowledge or experience to reach #netzero and #biodiversity goals. How can we ensure that new talent entering the workforce has the relevant skills, but also look at how we can ensure that the existing workforce are prepared for the future? This session will provide insights into the skills gap, look at which sectors this is more prevalent in, and provide some context in how we can upskill and train individuals to get to where we need to be. We’ll look at the different opportunities in upskilling, and hear from Generation UK, a provider of green Skills Bootcamps in England. Michael Okekunle will talk about his journey and experiences on a Bootcamp to his current role as a Retrofit Assessor. We’ll also hear from career changer Daniel Anderson, who will talk about his experiences of an IEMA training course, how that shaped his thinking for a future career move, and tips for working through a transition. Our speakers for this session include: James Hughes, Senior Programme Manager at Generation UK & Ireland Daniel Anderson, Sustainability Officer at Everyturn Mental Health Micheal Okekunle, Retrofit Assessor at Equans UK & Ireland Book now: https://bit.ly/3X68kkl

Bias tells us enough of the picture, but when you add ‘unconscious’ to it, that allows people to hide and say: ‘It’s not my fault.’ It’s not unconscious, it’s just ugly. We call it unconscious because we don’t like it and try to hide it. I grew up in a society that gave me some ugly views of Black people, despite the fact I am a Black person; that gave me ugly views about Queer people despite being a Queer person. But instead of pretending these views are hidden in my brain in such a way that I’m more likely to manifest them, I acknowledge them and declare that they are not who I will behave like. Even if they are part of some bad code that exists in my brain. I spoke about the topic of bias recently with Huw Morris for IEMA Transform and now, more than ever, it rings true. If you would like to read the article, I will link in the comments.

IEMA Connect 24: How can environmental auditors help organisations reach net zero? Organisations are increasingly committing to #netzero and are at various stages in the process of establishing emissions baselines, setting targets, measuring performance and developing and implementing Net Zero initiatives. Environmental auditors have a range of roles to play in providing assurance that these plans and supporting metrics are appropriate and reliable. In this session we will discuss how internal, supply chain and external auditors can support this critical work in delivering on Net Zero commitments with IEMA Senior Training and Development Manager Edward Brown. ESG (environmental, social, governance) and PDCA (plan, do, check, act) are acronyms that many are familiar with, but how much do we focus on the ‘G’ and the ‘C’ in them? With countries, cities, companies and individuals being held ever-more accountable for their impact on the environment, how can we be sure that there is no #greenwashing or #greenhushing taking place? In the first of three articles, Garry Warhurst B.Sc (Hons), FIFST, AIEMA assesses the initial approach to sustainability auditing and compliance in our latest edition of TRANSFORM, including ways to ensure that businesses learn, comply with all requirements and achieve the strong foundations that every quality management system needs.
