The International Test Commission (ITC) is an “Association of national psychological associations, test commissions, publishers and other organizations committed to promoting effective testing and assessment policies and to the proper development, evaluation and uses of educational and psychological instruments.” (ITC Directory, 2001). The ITC is one of the most fast-growing, active and impactful bodies among all international associations active in the domain of psychology and educational sciences. Its mission is worth pursuing, now more then ever since its founding, and has a significant impact on the way psychology in general and on psychological and educational assessment in particular is practiced in many countries all over the world. Its goals, its membership and its impact are truly international and it has proven to be a trendsetter in its chosen domain.

The International Test Commission had its 2024 conference here in Spain, and I made sure to be there! It’s not often that I have the opportunity to learn directly from the most important experts and legends in psychological and educational tests and assessments. The event was EVEN more interesting to me thanks to the contributions of colleagues in translation and survey research, like Ulrike Efu Nkong, Brita Dorer, Alisu Schoua-Glusberg, and Steve Dept. It was a week full of fascinating reflections and much learning with the beautiful backdrop of Granada. If I had to highlight just one takeaway as a translator, it would be a sense of responsibility: I now have seen firsthand how much care and thought is put into every step of the process and the real consequences these instruments have on individual lives, policymaking, and more. #ITC2024 #PsyTranslations #assessment

Il n'a pas fait le déplacement pour rien😉🚄 ! Notre #statisticien Julien M. s'est rendu la semaine dernière à #Grenade 🇪🇸 pour le congrès annuel de l'International Test Commission(ITC) dont Le français des affaires de la CCI Paris Ile-de-France est un membre affilié. Elle réunissait 430 participants de 48 pays différents🌎. Ce fut un plaisir😄 de partager notre #expertise et d'échanger avec d'autres chercheurs. Au cours des différentes #présentations, une réflexion critique s'est engagée sur divers sujets concernant les dernières #innovations dans les domaines des #tests, que cela soit des techniques #psychométriques de pointe ou l'application de l'intelligence #artificielle générative pour produire des #items. L'accent a aussi été mis sur l'importance de concevoir des tests sans biais culturels ou de genre. Nous en avons profité pour présenter nos travaux sur les solutions #innovantes💡 pour évaluer la difficulté des éléments de test avec peu de données. As a member of the, International Test Commission Faxtor Indonesia is dedicated to advancing fair and ethical testing on a global scale more specifically in our backyard, Indonesia. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Stephen Sireci for his outstanding leadership as President of ITC. With support from the entire ITC Council, his initiatives have notably enhanced Indonesia's involvement in ITC, particularly through insightful webinars. During Faxtor's 5th anniversary, the keynote address by Rainer Kurz was a standout moment. Furthermore, the collaboration between Himpunan Psikologi Indonesia (HIMPSI) Apsimetri, and ITC resulted in an exceptional webinar on ITC guidelines. This webinar featured presentations by Steven Serici (ITC President) and Urip Purwono (APSIMETRI President), skillfully moderated by Felipe (Chair of the Outreach and Capacity Building Committee, ITC). The period from 2022 to 2024 has been remarkable for Faxtor, especially with my role as a delegate on the Outreach and Capacity Building Committee. I am grateful for Felipe’s leadership, which has significantly enhanced our ability to connect Indonesia with global initiatives through this committee. Today, I am thrilled to meet all of you in person and deeply appreciate the participation from Indonesia: Faxtor Indonesia, Daya Dimensi Indonesia, and @Dinas Psikologi Angkatan Laut. I am confident that these interactions will have a profound impact on the development of psychometric practices in Indonesia.
Day 2 (Thursday) recap of the 2024 Conference of the ITC in Granada. Across tens of parallel sessions, we heard stimulating talks ranging from the methodological to the practical to the innovating. Researchers and practitioners engaged in critical reflections on the validity and usefulness of constructs and scores used in education and organizations, presented methodological & statistical insights into dealing with continuous norming, missing data, and faking bad, and innovating solutions using AI, LLM, eye-tracking, etc to enhance response process validation, scoring, and item generation. Topics spanned personality psychology, educational assessments, cross cultural adaptations of surveys, neuropsychological tools, and others. The plenary session was hosted by Bruno D. Zumbo distinguished professor of psychometrics, @Ana Villar Casa, Survey scientist at Meta, and Beatrice Rammstedt, Deputy President at GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences
