🤔 Did you know…. Starting from age 10 anyone can take part in a Climate Fresk workshop? Earlier this summer, a group of 6th form students in Wales did their Climate Fresk workshop - and then went further to be trained as facilitators, aka Freskers 💪 Supported by a team of coaches, these new Freskers embarked on their journey as changemakers in this increasingly hot world! ❤️ Remember - no one is too young or too small to make a difference! - Check out these upcoming free in-person workshops: 👉 London, 6th Aug: https://lnkd.in/e9EFHRKK 👉 London, 7th Aug: https://lnkd.in/ecZRbeuu 👉 Croydon, 7th Aug: https://lnkd.in/ecbT87KD 👉 London, 18th Aug: https://lnkd.in/eKtG6btg 👉 Brighton, 29th Aug: https://lnkd.in/e8XFBygZ 🌈 Junior version Climate Fresk 👉 Chelmsford, 30th Aug: https://lnkd.in/eqJSybsS #climatefresk #climateeducation #freecommunityworkshop

💭 What is a People’s Assembly? 🗣 On 19 June, we hosted a People’s Assembly on Heat and Shade in partnership with Shade the UK. It was a tremendous success and a moment of civic community and problem-solving. People’s Assemblies are events where individuals from a range of backgrounds come together to openly discuss community challenges and make collective decisions. Conversations are structured by facilitators so that everyone gets a chance to speak and anyone can choose to take part. Key benefits of a People's Assembly: ✨ They are tried and tested ✨ They provide a platform for diverse perspectives and create an inclusive space ✨ They are usually localised Read more about People's Assemblies here: https://lnkd.in/eKtjM4FQ (Article written by Aishani Parkash) 📷 Featuring Aneira Roose-McClew (TRUST THE PEOPLE) 📷 Video credit goes to Eden Robson, Brendon Dias Nagahawatte and Sunday Ip (London Screen Academy) #beattheheat #peoplesassembly #climateadaptation #Islington #builtenvironment #climatesolutions

Fascinating blog post from Involve about how the new government could co create key programmes with local citizens. Lets not forget the key recommendation of Climate Assembly UK from 2020 https://lnkd.in/g8SihCZ for a public education campaign . This was the raison d'etre for creating our climate centre and work we have been doing for over 2 years using workshops and exhibitions to engage, inform and connect people and ideas around the climate and biodiversity crisis . 🤔 We are curating a thought leadership series about opportunities for participatory and deliberative processes in a shifting political landscape following the 2024 general election. This will inevitably be a time of change — and we want to take this chance to think about some of the key issues, tensions and arguments that surround deliberative and participatory democracy in the UK and beyond. 📖 Read our first blog, titled: ‘New government — new relationship between everyday people and the state?’ by Carly Walker-Dawson (our Director of Capacity Building and Standards) and Calum Green (our Director of Advocacy and Communications) here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eiV2Kv4y

🗣 People’s Assembly on Heat and Shade💡 Thank you to everyone who took part in our People’s Assembly on Heat and Shade last Wednesday! Held in partnership with Shade the UK for the London Climate Action Week, we used the '40 degree stories' exhibition as the starting point for discussion. Drawing insights from the Islington residents’ real-life stories from the 2022 heat wave, we explored how we can help each other as a community when the next heat wave comes. The event was well-attended with people representing a diverse range of communities. There were five roundtables of deliberation, prompted by two questions: 💭 ‘What happens when we experience heat waves reaching 40°C in Islington?’ 💭 ‘What do we need to do to make Islington cooler and safer for everyone during hot weather?’ In the end, everyone in the assembly pledged to do something differently. Those pledges will be posted back to them in a fortnight to remind them of what they committed to. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who made this event happen: ✨ Polly Turton, Shreya Kapur and the team (Shade the UK) ✨ Our event facilitator, Aneira Roose-McClew (TRUST THE PEOPLE) ✨ Our speakers, Andy Love (Shade the UK), Joseph Jones (London Tenants Federation) and ANDREW BEDFORD (Head of Greenspace and Leisure at Islington Council) ✨ Adam Cummins (Angel Central Shopping Centre) who allowed us to use the space ✨ Hosts, Anna Hyde and Bel Jacobs FRSA and Volunteers, Crystal Cheung, Moriah Hull, Aishani Parkash (Islington Climate Centre) ✨ Video credits, Eden Robson, Brendon Dias Nagahawatte and Sunday Ip (London Screen Academy) Learn more about the event here: https://lnkd.in/evAVv5Rp Mayor of London Love Design Studio #LCAW #LCAW2024 #LondonClimateActionWeek2024 #climateadaptation #Islington #builtenvironment #climatesolutions

Summer temperatures in the UK have broken record after record, causing illness, claiming lives, and taking a large economic toll. This week, yellow heat health alerts were put in place for most of England, meaning that daytime temperatures could reach 30C (86F). There is also a growing concern that rising temperatures might derail some of our favourite public events, including concerts, festivals, and sports, including #football and the Paris #Olympics. In this important article, Shade the UK looks at the evidence and provides tips for how event organisers can help us beat the heat. https://lnkd.in/e78T45WJ #heatwave #heatalert #summer #climatechange #globalwarming #drought
