We are pleased to announce that we have signed a contract for the REFHYNE II project, following Shell's recent positive Final Investment Decision (FID). ITM will supply 100MW of TRIDENT stacks and skids to the Shell Rheinland Energy and Chemicals Park in Germany. Linde Engineering has been chosen as the EPC integrator whom we will collaborate closely with.   REFHYNE II will use renewable electricity to produce up to 44,000 kilograms of renewable hydrogen daily, partially decarbonising fuel production at Shell’s Wesseling refinery. The electrolyser is scheduled to begin operating in 2027.   Dennis Schulz, our CEO, said: “Shell is a leading global energy company, and we are proud they have selected us for this prestigious project. The performance of our latest generation electrolyser stacks in the REFHYNE I plant played an important role in Shell's proceeding to FID, as did their extensive due diligence on our technology and our capability to deliver this large-scale commercial project.” Read more https://lnkd.in/eJ9Hdfux   #hydrogen #greentech #energy #decarbonisation

Today, German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Robert Habeck and Lower Saxony’s Minister President, Stephan Weil joined RWE for the inauguration of their 14MW pilot electrolyser plant in Lingen, Germany. Under the slogan "Wasserstoff marsch!", in an inspiring speech, RWE CEO Markus Krebber officially opened the plant today.   4MW of the pilot plant are utilising ITM’s TRIDENT stack platform, and have been integrated turnkey by Linde Engineering.   The other 10MW of the pilot plant are based on alkaline technology provided by Sunfire.   The plant will generate up to 270 kg of green hydrogen per hour using electricity from renewable sources.   Dennis Schulz, ITM CEO, said "It has been a privilege to attend the inauguration alongside esteemed politicians, customers and partners. The pilot plant will allow RWE to gain valuable experience in operating our technology, whilst we are already in the process of delivering a further 200MW of electrolyser stacks and skids to Lingen for the largest PEM electrolyser plant in build today."   Dr. Sopna Sury Nikolaus Valerius Tilman Weide Pedram Pazouki Reinhart Vogel #hydrogen #greentech #energy #innovation

"We have visited many OEMs over recent months as part of our tender process, but it was only today that we were able to finally see a real electrolyser factory." (customer quote) Many potential customers have been visiting us recently to get a first-hand impression of our capabilities. Feedback has been brilliant throughout, highlighting that this feels very different - and real. It makes the whole ITM Power team incredibly proud to see so many products successfully manufactured, tested and ready for collection by our customers. Every TRIDENT stack skid in this photo is built for a commercial project - not a single one is built to stock. #energy #hydrogen #electrolysis #cleantech #uk #eu

Recently, we told you about how our performance focus delivers strong results for customers. Today, we'll explain how technology underpins that success, using a new green hydrogen plant developed and built by Linde Engineering as an example. The electrolysis plant, recently inaugurated by Yara International, is based on proton exchange membrane technology from ITM Power. It has a production capacity of around 10,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day. Yara will use the green hydrogen as feedstock to produce 20,500 metric tons of ammonia per year that will be converted into 80,000 tons of low-carbon fertilizer. By prioritizing technology alongside our commitment to performance, we're delivering real results that have a positive impact on our planet and its people. #LindeIsEverywhere

It was a pleasure to welcome the Rt Hon Lord Mayor of London Michael Mainelli and the Lady Mayoress Elisabeth Mainelli to the factory along with Master Cutler Charles Turner DL and Mark Huxley FRSA, Master Entrepreneur. The Lord Mayor has an impressive engineering background, and so we gave him the opportunity to assemble one of our test electrolysers to fully understand our approach to electrolysis. The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of London is an international ambassador for the UK’s listed businesses, and as the first hydrogen focussed business to join the London Stock Exchange in 2004, we thank him and his team for spending time with us to understand our technology, and look forward to future collaborations.   #hydrogen #greentech #energy

We have signed a capacity reservation with a large utility company, under which our customer has secured future production capacity for NEPTUNE II units, our 2 MW containerised plug & play electrolyser system. The reservation covers four NEPTUNE II units to be manufactured in 2025/2026 for a project in the UK. The project, for which HAR1 funding has already been secured, expects the Final Investment Decision (FID) by our customer in 2025. Dennis Schulz, CEO ITM, said: “This capacity reservation is the result of an intense qualification process by a large industrial player who is keen to buy a safe, reliable and cost-competitive solution. Data gathered from plants in operation were a key differentiator.” Read more…https://lnkd.in/eqCsWwZu   #hydrogen #greentech #manufacturing #energy

The Clean Refinery Hydrogen for Europe (REFHYNE) project has successfully concluded with a final event in Wesseling, Germany, to celebrate and learn from the development and operation of this 10MW PEM electrolyser. This groundbreaking initiative was the largest operational PEM plant in the world for quite some time, and demonstrated the viability and potential of green hydrogen production in a refinery at an industrial scale. The event was a great opportunity to show prospective customers our electrolysers operating in an active refinery setting.    The achievements of the project, which saw much of the work take place during the global pandemic, highlight the dedication of all partners involved (Shell, SINTEF, Sphera and ERM), and ITM’s ability to deliver electrolyser projects even during the most testing of circumstances. Furthermore, the data gathered from REFHYNE proves ITM’s market-leading stack performance and operational flexibility.   REFHYNE has been a true lighthouse project that has made a substantial contribution to the industry and has already led to significant improvements in both the construction and operation of new electrolysers, paving the way for other such projects in the sector. The electrolysers will continue to provide Shell’s refinery with green hydrogen long into the future.   The demonstration project has been supported with €10 million from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership (formerly Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking, FCH JU) a public-private partnership supporting fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe.   #hydrogen #greentech #refinery #energy

    CEO of ITM Power

It was a pleasure today to join the CxO Round Table: Ready for Impact at ACHEMA 2024, alongside His Excellency Khalil Ibn Salamah, Vice Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia, Jürgen Nowicki, CEO of Linde Engineering, and Vidya Ramnath, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Emerson. Our lively discussion was focused on what it takes to make the global energy transition a reality. Here some selected personal thoughts I contributed on stage: - The energy transition requires conviction. Not every investment will be risk-free, and not every business case will immediately live up to traditional investment criteria. - We need a stepwise approach to implementation, so that we can learn from real-world deployments to prove technological solutions. This will benefit all parties involved by increasing stakeholder confidence and enhancing the bankability of future projects. - Looking at green hydrogen and electrolysers in particular, we have to overcome the hen-egg-problem of heavy investments being needed for establishing high quality, highly automated manufacturing lines and production capacities - ahead of sufficient commercial demand. Without credible delivery capabilities, OEMs won't be qualified as suppliers into projects of industrial players though. At the same time, manufacturers need to manage their cash carefully, as a strong balance sheet is another important qualification criterion in the eyes of customers, especially for large-scale projects. - The technology is ready today, but in order to get to a well functioning hydrogen economy, government and industry need to orchestrate the synchronised build-up of its three dimensions, being a) the production of clean hydrogen, b) transport and storage infrastructure, and c) use cases. The hydrogen economy will only be as strong as its weakest link. Today, the main roadblock in my view is the connection of (potential) producers with offtakers - this is where many final investment decisions (FIDs) are stuck right now, especially of small to mid-size projects. A pipeline network, even the certainty of one coming, would unlock various FIDs today. - Despite high energy cost and inflation, we need FIDs now to enable the further scaling of production capacities. Governments are well advised to speed up permit and funding decisions, and to find the right balance in their carrot and stick approach, with the carrot being CAPEX or OPEX funding, and the stick being increasing carbon taxation. Pro-active investments into (cross-border) pipeline networks are essential, and some countries like Germany and the Netherlands are leading the way here.
