This year marks the 70th anniversary of Defender’s humanitarian charity partnership with the British Red Cross and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, one of the longest-standing charity partnerships of its kind in the world.    Over the last seven decades, the partnership is estimated to have positively impacted over two million people in more than 50 countries, helping vulnerable communities prepare for, respond to and recover from devastating crises.    What started in the deserts of Dubai and forest villages of Kenya in 1954 has become engrained within Defender’s DNA, a partnership providing vital assistance for humanity often in the harshest of conditions to help those most in need.    Today, Defender's latest flagship project has seen a specially equipped Defender 130 emergency response vehicle handed over to the Italian Red Cross. Fitted with advanced satellite communications hardware, the 130 will provide continuous, nationwide connection and access in some of the most hard-to reach, disaster-hit locations in the country.    Modified to handle extraordinary emergencies, the 130 will ensure the mobilisation of relief efforts is never compromised by cellular network outages – a common issue during environmental disasters, such as floods and mudslides.    Defender’s support of the partnership through fundraising initiatives is unwavering, showcasing its international reach and impact. Meet Simon Barnes, Customer Care Operations Director at Whitley, he joined JLR back in 2011 in engineering. He grew up on the South Coast and lives an active life, taking part in epic challenges, including cycling from London to Paris in 18 hours. 27 years ago Simon was involved in a severe motorcycle accident and years later had to make the decision to have below the knee leg amputation. Simon is an advocate for our SHINE employee-led network, who focus on supporting our colleagues who have visible and invisible disabilities. He is just one of many here at JLR making a difference to people’s lives at work, making JLR a place where everyone belongs. A highly bespoke Range Rover, the Carmel Edition, is the epitome of modern luxury, and one of several elements of our Reimagine strategy that will give our discerning clients inimitable experiences behind the wheel and beyond. Range Rover Carmel Edition designers drew inspiration from the picturesque landscape of lush woodlands and ocean cliffs along the breath-taking coastal roads surrounding Carmel, California, brought to life in the Bespoke Green Satin exterior and the Sequoia Green and Perlino Aniline leather interior. During its unveiling at Monterey Car Week, Range Rover pledged to donate $5,000 to the Del Monte Conservancy for each of the 17 Range Rover SV Carmel Editions sold, aiding their efforts to preserve and manage over 700 acres of forest in the Pebble Beach area. #Reimagine

Today marks United Nations International Youth Day. As a global corporate citizen, we recognise the importance of meeting the significant social and environmental challenges of our generation; it’s a longstanding priority of ours to take care of the communities we operate in.    This year, JLR celebrates its 10-year anniversary of the Dream Fund Partnership, the first fund of its kind in the Chinese auto industry dedicated to supporting young people.    People aged 15 to 24 account for 16% of the global population. Last month we marked International Day of Black Latin American and Caribbean Women, recognising the resilience and contributions of these women across the globe. Our JLR Brazil colleagues dedicated the whole of July to raising awareness of the day, which is marked globally on July 25.     Across the month, they shared thought-provoking stories with the wider business on income disparities, career progression and even visual prejudices. A key learning was, despite progress, black women continue to face challenges. In 2023, black women in Brazil earned only half the average income and faced an unemployment rate double the national average.      Statistics such as these are why we continue to double our efforts to create more opportunities to promote equity across the business and break down barriers to entry and career progression. In the past year, approximately 26% of our new hires in Brazil were Black Latin-American and Caribbean women, with 48% of their 25 new apprentices being from the same demographic. In addition, through the Future Black Talents initiative, our Itatiaia plant invested £8,000 to support these young talents in their education and professional growth.     JLR Brazil’s work and dedication has earned us recognition as one of the ‘Most Inclusive Companies’ in Brazil by both Instituto Ethos and the Época NEGÓCIOS.
