Interesting obesity insights in the latest Future Health Research paper. We look forward to continuing to work with the team and new Government on driving forward change to help more patients living with obesity get the right treatment.
📜 📢 The new Government is up and running, so no better time to release our latest Future Health Research paper on obesity policy. This analysis looks at how much of a priority NHS integrated care boards are assigning to obesity as part of their five year forward plans. The main findings are: 85% of ICBs did not name obesity as a priority; with only 5 of the 42 NHS ICBs in England doing so Two NHS ICBs included no references at all to obesity in their forward plans While 50% of ICBs did include an ambition or goal to reduce obesity just 16% set a measurable target Data on obesity rates was included in only 40% of NHS ICB plans Across all ICB plans there was a stronger focus on tackling childhood obesity over adulthood obesity The research discusses the considerations and challenges facing ICBs such as high obesity rates, variations in access to services for patients across the country (recently covered in the BMJ) and also the opportunities from changing pathways to improve access to cost-effective treatments. The full research paper, sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, is available here: https://lnkd.in/eKvAYW7V The research has been covered in the Guardian: https://lnkd.in/en2v7Vab This report follows our 2023 report 'Turning Point', which set out policy proposals for a new Government wide obesity plan, including action across both obesity prevention and treatment. This is available here: https://lnkd.in/evS4myRG There's much more to come from us at Future Health Research in the coming months on obesity policy and on other major healthcare issues facing the new Government and the NHS as a new ten year health plan is built. Here's hoping for change that can build a healthier nation. #futurehealth #healthpolicy #obesity
