I was sent this article (link in comments) about Jasmin, a young Mum who decided to quit her job because childcare costs would leave her with just £5 a day. This harsh reality is all too common for many parents across the country. At Kinsail, we believe no parent should have to choose between working and affording quality childcare. That’s why it’s crucial for all employers to offer the Workplace Nursery Benefit. Why use Kinsail - because we are the only provider of this benefit that offers a end-to-end technology platform to reduce the administrative workload by 90%, making it easier for companies to provide it, which can significantly cut down childcare costs for working parents - averaging £7k in savings per year. Imagine being able to save thousands each year on childcare fees!! If you’re interested in learning more about how we can support you, get in touch or tag someone who could benefit from an extra few thousand pounds in their take-home pay. #childcare #workingparents #financialwellness #Kinsail #workplacenurserybenefit

With the elections just round the corner, I thought it’d be useful to share what each party is pledging when it comes to childcare. 🟦 The Conservative Party: They’re planning to continue the free childcare expansion until September 2025 and will also increase the income threshold for claiming child benefit. 🟥 The Labour Party: They’re matching the government's free childcare expansion, planning to open over 3,000 new nurseries, and will provide free breakfast clubs in every primary school in England. 🟨 Liberal Democrats: They want to ensure all parents have access to flexible, affordable, and fair childcare. They’re also planning to increase maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave pay, plus offer an enhanced rate of child benefit for one-year-olds. 🟩 Green Party of England and Wales: They’re extending the government's childcare offer to 35 hours per week from the age of nine months, abolishing the two-child benefit cap, and providing breakfast clubs in primary schools. 🟪 The Reform Party: They’re pledging to "frontload" the child benefit system for kids aged 1-4, giving parents more time with their children. For parents or soon to be, it’s essential to think about how these pledges will impact us! At Kinsail, we’re all about supporting parents with life changing solutions like the Workplace Nursery Benefit. We help families save thousands of pounds each year on their childcare costs. This week I learnt about Human Spaghettification And I have never heard a truer analogy to represent being a working parent “Spaghettification is the vertical stretching and horizontal compression of objects into long thin shapes (rather like spaghetti) in a very strong, non-homogeneous gravitational field. It is caused by extreme forces. In the most extreme cases, the stretching and compression are so powerful that no object can resist it. If one were to fall into a black hole feet first, the gravity at their feet would be much stronger than at their head, causing the person to be vertically stretched. Along with that, the right side of the body will be pulled to the left, and the left side of the body will be pulled to the right, horizontally compressing the person.” Sample 'Extreme Forces' that turn working parents into noodles ✅ Some expectation to still exercise, have active social life, and not physically look like a piece of sh*t ✅ Work like you don't have children, and raise children like you don't work ✅ Too much Wiggles ✅ This weeks vomiting and diarrhoea bug ✅ Societal expectation of homemade organic cooking (can't cook) ✅ Maniac Toddler with manners of a tyrant ✅ Stupid nursery fee increases combined with crushing disappointment about new gov free hours scheme ✅ Toddler party at 3am with mandatory mum invite ✅ What’s on my to-do list today? Oh yes everything #WorkingParents #Workingmums #Womeninbusiness #FlexibleWorking

Recent data reveals the UK has lost 56,000 childcare places since 2019, a drop of 4.3%, with some regions experiencing closures over 20%. Despite government efforts to introduce up to 30 hours of free childcare, the decline in available providers has created 'childcare deserts', leaving many parents without viable options. This shortage poses a significant challenge for working parents, exacerbating the struggle to balance career and family life. As we face a severe postcode lottery for childcare, it's clear that more comprehensive measures are needed to support families and ensure access to affordable childcare.

🚸 The past decade has witnessed a 50% reduction in the number of childminders in the UK, alongside rising childcare costs that continue to strain family budgets. This trend has heightened the urgency for innovative solutions that ensure affordable and flexible childcare. 🌱 Innovative Responses: Entrepreneurs like Krista Baker and Stephanie Martindale are stepping up, creating micro-nurseries that not only offer personalised care but also flexibility that traditional settings may not provide. These ventures are proving crucial in towns like Abingdon and Didcot, where demand far outstrips supply. 📉 The attached chart illustrates the worrying trend in childminder numbers over the last decade, with a consistent decline each year. This has left many parents without viable childcare options, pushing some to leave the workforce altogether. 👶 Government Initiatives: Recent government efforts, including the introduction of up to 30 hours of free childcare, aim to alleviate some of these pressures. However, for many providers like Mrs. Baker, the funding rates still pose challenges to sustainability. 🔍 A Call to Action: As we navigate this evolving landscape, it's clear that more support is needed. From government-backed financial incentives to community-driven solutions, every effort counts in making childcare accessible and ensuring that no parent has to choose between their career and their children.
