Well done to the 89 students who completed our 2024 Work Experience Programme last week!    The programme is designed to provide participants with an overview of asset management, the different functions within our industry, and a general insight into the career journeys. The students were also asked to complete a project task during the week, with a presentation on the final day.    Thanks to all the participants for spending the week with us. We hope the programme has inspired you to consider a future career in financial services.     And thanks to all the volunteers and partners for helping make such an impactful initiative.

Colleagues from different South Asian heritages showcased their beautiful traditional clothing and shared a variety of mouth-watering dishes that reflected their rich and diverse cultures. This year’s theme of ‘Free to Be Me’ was brought to life throughout the month with our colleagues sharing their stories and how L&G supports them to embrace their career and development ambitions. We were also delighted to welcome Laks Mann MBE from the South Asian Heritage Month team. He illustrated how #FreeToBeMe enables us to celebrate our backgrounds and the dynamic nature of identity in different contexts. This morning we published our results for the first half of 2024, reporting core operating profit slightly ahead of last year, a solvency coverage ratio of 223% and good momentum on our strategy. “My summer internship at Legal & General has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve gained hands-on experience with financial processes, developed a keen eye for detail, and honed my time management skills. This has given me a solid foundation for my final year at university and beyond. I came across this internship programme through Bright Network, an organisation dedicated to connecting students with internship, graduate and career opportunities. It immediately caught my attention due to Legal & General’s strong reputation and commitment to social responsibility. As part of this internship, I joined the Annuities Reconciliation Team based in Cardiff. This team is part of Group Finance and plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of financial data. Since the beginning, the people around me have been extremely approachable and helpful, and I was introduced to many different teams, which broadened my horizons of the opportunities at L&G.  One of the highlights of this internship was to meet the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, a career that covers many of the things I’m passionate about. She gave great advice on career progression and how to make the most of the opportunities presented to me. This conversation fuelled my motivation to pursue a career in this field. It was also great to learn about how L&G support the development of those starting out in their careers. Graduates here are given the chance to join a “rotation” process, where they can move across different teams and locations over the years to gain experience in multiple roles and expand their networks. In summary, this internship has had a profound impact on my future plans by inspiring me to pursue a career in finance.
