Today is International Non-Binary People’s Day which aims to raise awareness around the issues faced by non-binary people, who do not identify within the traditional gender binary, to create visibility and understanding. As senior members of a workplace’s culture, executive sponsors and senior leaders have substantial influence on the allyship practices of their organisation. With increased influence over budget, company vision and DEI initiatives, allyship is a practice that senior leaders can bring to workplaces through impactful and formalised methods. Research suggests that senior leadership engagement in LGBTQ+ welfare is not at the level it could be. Our Seeing Is Believing report found that nearly 1 in 2 respondents neither agreed nor disagreed with the statement “senior leaders within my organisation visibly engage with LGBTQ+ DE&I”, highlighting a significant engagement and knowledge gap around LGBTQ+ inclusion from senior leadership.
