Scenes from our #EUKSW2023 Annual Conference and AGM. Thank you so much for being there! English UK South West was delighted with the success of the first in-person conference since 2019! With the ultra-up-to-date theme of AI, attendees were buzzing with the potentiality of ChatGPT as a tool for teaching and administration, so very well demonstrated by Nik Peachey (PeacheyPublications Ltd) and Sam Gravell (Sam Gravell). It was encouraging to hear the latest updates from English UK on the recovery of the ELT market and to have first-hand insights into the new developments of the Accreditation UK scheme criteria from the British Council. Further sessions on Social and Emotional Learning in the ELT classroom (Jo Krousso, Macmillan Education), Enhancing Mental Health through Technology (Mariyana B.) and Supporting Neurodivergent Students (Anne Margaret Smith) were equally well received by southwest teachers and language school managers. Joel Ashton (Language Tree) led an interesting discussion on homestay hosts, Gabe Casey (STAR Exeter) talked about the benefits of studying for a DELTA and of course sustainability was on the agenda with Jonathan Dykes on Green Standard Schools (Green Standard Schools).
