We’re always told never let a good crisis - or indeed several crises at the same time - go to waste! But it makes for a very busy publishing life! I’m delighted to report that the two volumes published with LSE Press dealing with the twin tragedies of Afghanistan and Ukraine have reached a remarkably large world-wide audience. Meanwhile, Bristol University Press are keen to bring out an updated version of at least the English version of ‘Agonies of Empire’ once we know the outcome of the US elections in November. The Democrats might be making a come back right now. But I’m making no predictions as to who might win, and whether victory for one side or the other will end America’s ongoing agony.

Bevan’s sharp analysis reveals how ideological shifts have weakened the country’s #publicservices over decades, and paints "a damning portrait of a country which has 'lost its way'", writes James Barfleur in his #review, though he stops short of setting out potential paths forward for politicians and #policymakers.
