He did it!! After 31 days, 22 hours and 20 minutes, 18-year-old Harry Besley has circumnavigated Britain in an electric powered rib! In an aim to to encourage the move to zero emissions propulsion through electric, Harry set off on his challenge on the 16th July, arriving to an applauding crowd, including our very own Trevor, in Lyme Regis on the 18th August. Harry wants more people to move to electric power on the water, to reduce the use of fossil fuels, water and noise pollution in our sea and waterways. Increasing electric propulsion, being an ambition shared by Trevor and the Lynch Motors team, when we were asked to sponsor Harry we jumped at the chance. The Lynch Motors team recently spent a couple of days at Chichester Harbour upgrading the Solar Heritage, a pollutions-free, solar powered catamaran. The Solar Heritage provides educational boat trips for schools, encouraging children to consider climate change, renewable energy and the impact on wildlife. So, it is a boat that gets lots of constant use. The recent upgrade included new Twin Marlin 8 drive system and adaptions to the set up to improve current handling. Over the years we have completed several site visits to ensure everything is operational and added additional features to make it easier for the crew to understand and work with the drive system. The vessel has two sources of energy, electromagnetic energy from the sun and conventional energy from the national grid. Being electrically driven, rather than fuel driven, the vessel is extremely quiet, so it does not disturb the wildlife. There are also no CO2 emissions and no wash to cause erosion to the estuary bank or salt marsh. We really do make anything move with electric, from large industrial cranes and boats, to miniature railways and leisure rides. Last month we had fun fitting our electric drive systems to the iconic Gus Hunnybun miniature train ride on Plymouth Hoe in Devon. The ride has been entertaining and carrying children for over 50 years, so the new upgrade to electric power had to incorporate the train's original features, whilst complying to the latest health and safety standard. Lynch electric systems are ultra safe, always within the ‘ultra-safe’ government guidelines and the EU low voltage directive. Being within 24v or 48v DC, makes it safe for customers to install and use our Lynch motors and systems. So the perfect choice for this project. Whilst just one of our motors has the power and torque to pull all 4 trains, for safety we have installed two, one at the front and one at the back. This gives the train an in-built redundancy, so one can pull and one can push and there is back up in the unlikely event that one fails. This is important for safety reasons, as well as to keep the ride going. Industries are looking for more sustainable ways to power machinery. Moving from petrol or diesel to electric is an option that we can provide a solution for. And we did just that, when in 2000 we were asked to design an electric drive solution for rail track grinders, for the London Underground! The challenge, the Lynch team love a challenge, was to convert London Underground railway grinders from petrol to electric, to improve safety, sustainability and ease of transit. Nearly 20 years later, the same electric rail grinders are still going strong, with regular maintenance & servicing from the team at Lynch Motors. Traditionally railway grinders are petrol powered, which causes issues when used underground due to the restricted air flow. Converting the rail grinders to electric, removed the risk of sparks igniting due to combustion fumes, as well creating a more pleasant and fume free environment.  The electric rail grinder is a safer alternative, not only due to the omission of combustion fuels but also due to the in-built controller and voltage protection, which protects the battery and increases the life of the unit.    Read the full story at: https://lnkd.in/e-_jVPg4   Trevor and the team love nothing better than finding new solutions, get in contact with your challenge!!
