Not a standard insight agency: we grasp the nettle of social responsiblity; give people a voice; push for social value.

About us

We're not a standard insight agency: we grasp the nettle of social responsiblity; we give people a voice; we push for social value. We believe in creating a better future, where everybody has voice, can reach their potential and live a fulfilled life. We use insights to shape policy, donate 5% of net profits to charity and move to a 9-day fortnight in 2024. Our mission is to empower our people to make a positive difference, using their passion and skills in listening to and understanding people, to provide actionable insight, that helps our customers deliver better public services. We believe in being a values driven organisation, with a social, ethical and environmental conscience. We believe that all businesses have a duty to be socially responsible, to re-invest in society, be active contributors to the local community, and minimise their environmental impacts and we are active endorsers of the Social Value Act. We have four values: 1. Put people first 2. Customer focused 3. Curious and Passionate 4. Professional Integrity It is these values that shape and define us. We are in business to make a positive contribution to communities and wider society. This forms the ‘bedrock’ and ‘cornerstone’ of our purpose. It is why we do the work we do. Understanding people and providing people with a voice is critical to organisational success and helping to deliver great services to customers, service users, residents and the wider community, especially the vulnerable. M·E·L Research stands for measurement, evaluation and learning. We measure views and opinions; we evaluate what they are telling us about how well a client, project or service is performing; and how improvements or changes can be made. With over 35 years’ experience of working across key areas of the public services arena, we can help clients with their social research and behavioural insights needs.

M·E·L Research Supports New Research Into Public Views On Assisted Dying – Interim Report “This has been one of the most collaborative projects I have ever worked on and it is great to see the first set of conclusions published. It has been a very rewarding experience to be part of a team that has approached this highly emotive issue, with sensitivity and intellectual rigour. Throughout this project this issue seems to have been gaining traction in the media, with various interventions from public figures both in favor of and against a change in the law. In this interim report and the full report that will be published in early 2025 we hope we have helped to add the voice of the public into the debate.” https://lnkd.in/ecwGH4XV Steve Handley Nuffield Council on Bioethics #AssistedDying

    Happy anniversary Skye Curtis!

Evaluation specialist, mixed methods researcher, passionate about advancing and embedding EDI in social research

Today is officially my 1-year anniversary at MEL research. 🎉 It feels very strange. Not because it’s gone so quickly, but more because it feels like I’ve been here for years. I’ve felt so welcomed and been given the freedom to grow and develop the evaluation team (without the challenging of long sign off processes too - what a luxury!). I’m very proud to own that it’s been such a great year for us. As a team we’ve got 4 new amazing team members (Evan, Richard, Emily, Holly) we’ve made the open commitment to only do empowering evaluative practice, we’ve pushed and challenged ourselves to really speak up about inclusive and trauma informed research. We’re facing our fears – talking at events about our passion for inclusive research and engaging/ creative methods, and we’re challenging ourselves to test new tools and approaches to help with the complex, people focused work that we do – such as interactive longitudinal story telling. It has been BUSY. To be honest I’d say at times it’s felt intense. But it has been so so worth it. I’ve had the pleasure of working in many fab teams but honestly I’ve never been surrounded by such a breadth of diverse talent. And the motivation to do (what Sophi lovely terms) human research is just inspiring. And most of all I’m so proud to work at a company with a genuine, and I’d dare say fearless, commitment to social value and EDI. It is a breath of fresh air. It is no small feat to be fearless in your willingness to learn, be better, recognise (and be honest) about when you need to get better. I wouldn’t be able to push for inclusive research practice so passionately without the support and commitment of this lovely organisation. In summary year one at MEL = amazing year. Onwards and upwards (wondering about the dog pic? It's completely irrelevant. But they're cute no!?)

M·E·L Research is delighted to announce that we have once again been commissioned by English Heritage to undertake a large-scale interpretation evaluation project, concentrating on fewer sites but allowing for more in-depth analysis at each location. This year’s research will focus on the following sites: • Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens • Grime’s Graves – Prehistoric Flint Mine • Chesters Roman Fort and Museum – Hadrian’s Wall • Dover Castle “Building on the success of last year’s research, we are excited to delve deeper into how visitors interact with interpretive elements at English Heritage sites. This year, we will incorporate additional approaches such as direct observation and triangulating findings with on-site teams. Our goal is to provide even more robust insights that align with English Heritage’s evolving brand and their mission to connect people with heritage.” - Elliot Simmonds https://lnkd.in/eXjGX32m Sophie King Rhiannon Pratt Kathy Seymour #Heritage #Culture #VisitorExperience #HeritageInterpretation #VisitorResearch
