Antimicrobial Resistance (#AMR) is the development of resistance by bacteria to commonly used treatments. This silent pandemic contributes to five million deaths every year and could rise to 10 million by 2050. 🦠 ❗Tackling AMR requires world leaders and stakeholders across sectors to collaborate to ensure the appropriate use of #antibiotics. That’s why we’re backing Action for Global Health's call for the Prime Minister to attend the upcoming High-Level Meeting and take urgent action to save lives. In July, as part of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London's RAFT project, we concluded a fruitful workshop in Dar es Salaam focused on helping #Tanzania assess and improve its preparedness for escalating #arbovirus threats. This was the last in a series of self-assessment workshops led by Malaria Consortium, with previous workshops successfully held in #BurkinaFaso, #Cameroon, and #CotedIvoire. The two-day event brought together 15 participants from various health departments who identified gaps and contributed to discussions that will inform a country-specific report, strengthening Tanzania's readiness for future outbreaks. 💪 Together, we can build resilient health systems to protect communities against #ArboviralDiseases!

In a world first, a study in #Mali has shown a vaccine to greatly increase protection against malaria before and during pregnancy.🤰🎉 Read our latest news story ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wMcS5 Research led by investigators at the Malaria Research and Training Center in #Bamako plus National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), The National Institutes of Health and Sanaria Inc. found that the Sanaria PfSPZ vaccine demonstrates significant efficacy against infection over two years, without the need for a booster dose. To date, women have had limited options to prevent and treat #malaria during pregnancy — a time when they are most vulnerable — so these findings mark a major step forward to improve #maternalhealth.

Along with our partners at Stanford University, Molecular Research Laboratories (MOLAB) and Ministry of Health #Uganda's National Malaria Control Programme, we're evaluating how #malaria immunity varies between individuals who receive seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC) and those who don't. 💊 Find out more in our latest synopsis ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wM1b1 📊Data from this research will inform future studies on the long-term clinical implications of #SMC and help ensure better protection for children, who are most susceptible to malaria, in high-risk areas.
