Enhancing Mental Wellbeing through Activity In today's fast-paced world, mental wellbeing is more crucial than ever. An insightful article from Mates in Mind sheds light on how staying active can significantly boost your mental health. From simple activities like walking and cycling to more structured forms of exercise, keeping active is essential. Not only does it help reduce anxiety and stress, but it also stimulates the production of endorphins, improving your overall mood. Additionally, engaging in physical activities can offer a sense of routine and accomplishment that is indispensable for mental health. It's important for everyone, regardless of their role in the construction and civil engineering industry, to incorporate some form of physical activity into their daily routine. 🌟🚶♂️💪🏗️ I really enjoy running and find it helps to quiet my mind, what do you do? #MentalWellbeing #ConstructionHealth #StayActive

Trigger Warning: this post mentions suicide. According to the House of Commons Library, in 2022 there were 6,588 deaths registered in the UK where the cause was recorded as suicide. This is why it is important that we start conversations about mental health (within our own organisations and across our networks) so that we can address the stigma that surrounds it and ensure that everyone can get the support that they need, when they need it. This is why we work collaboratively with organisations of any size, to embed a proactive, prevention strategy which empowers them to create positive mental health in and through work. We have also created a blog series which looks at different ways to optimise your mental wellbeing through: Six tips: https://bit.ly/MinMblog1 Sleep: https://bit.ly/MinMblog2 Relaxation: https://bit.ly/MinMblog3 Being Active: https://bit.ly/MinMblog4 Nutrition: https://bit.ly/MinMblog5 Work-Life Balance: https://bit.ly/MinMblog6 Finance: https://bit.ly/MinMblog7 #LetsTalk #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalwellbeing #wellbeing

We are proud to partner with Make A Difference Summits to bring you the first ever MAD World Construction Summit on 17 October 2024. The event will bring together key figures to provide insight, expertise and best practice case studies on mental health in the construction sector and what organisations are doing to improve mental wellbeing within their own organisation and their supply chains. Attendees will hear from construction organisations (on what they are doing and the impact it is having), mental health experts, regulators and other key stakeholders. It is a chance to learn, to be inspired and to go away armed both with greater understanding but also concrete steps to take in your organisation to improve mental health and wellbeing, and through that the performance of your people, organisation and supply chain. “Thank you” to all of our amazing fundraisers. It’s your hard work, dedication and support that generates the vital funds we need to help us reach more people through raising awareness of mental health in the workplace and the importance of a proactive holistic approach. Remember, making small changes to your nutrition, exercise and sleep can help improve your mental wellbeing – so maybe you could undertake a sponsored walk or bicycle ride; run a healthy bake off competition, or ... well we’re not sure how sleep could come into it, but the point is that you can have fun and if you can fundraise at the same time we will be most grateful. Find out how you can help us: https://lnkd.in/eKfM-GnD

Imagine you have just started a new job and you are told what to do in a language that you have limited or no knowledge of. How would you know what was required of you? How would you stay safe in the office/on site? How would you keep your colleagues safe? It is hardly a surprise that according to research, non-English speaking workers on construction sites are at higher risk of accidents than their English-speaking counterparts in countries such as the UK, US, Singapore and Australia (Loosemore and Lee 2002, Oswald et al. 2015, Sherratt 2016). Logically, this will also be true for other sectors too. It is, therefore, important that we make communications available in more than just English. As mental health can impact on physical health, and vice versa, it is important to provide information on how you spot the signs of stress, depression and anxiety in yourself and your colleagues in a language which you have a competency in. This is why we have translated our Spotting the Signs posters into Albanian, Polish and Romanian – Supporters can download them from the resources section of the portal. If you are not a Supporter but are keen to access a wealth of training & resources to improve your workers’ mental wellbeing.
