Sepsis remains a clear and present medical threat that can have devastating and life changing consequences as well as death. How we handle a repatriation is a decision that is made on a case-by-case basis. Just a few of the considerations when planning an escorted repatriation are: The patient's clinical condition and stability Any medications or additional clinical needs Airport transfers and wheelchair requirements The length of journey and number of flight sectors Any local laws, rules or immigration formalities Patients mobility and care needs The patient’s age, weight and general health The patient's psychological state and travel confidence Ensuring the patient's safety during the flight, managing their medical condition in transit, and providing continuous monitoring and care is, of course, critical. Here are a few of the less obvious responsibilities of a Medical Escort. https://buff.ly/3XEwEM6

Approximately 1-2 in 1,000 people are affected by a DVT each year and whether a patient is travelling alone after discharge from hospital, or whether they are being escorted by a medical practitioner, it is important to evaluate the risk of developing a DVT and to determine the most appropriate means to reduce the risk. We caught up with Stuart Phillips to summarise our approach. Click to read: https://buff.ly/4blo87X

As we celebrate the Day of the Seafarer, it’s important to highlight the crucial role that seafarers play in our global economy and everyday lives. These brave men and women face unique challenges and risks as they navigate the world’s oceans. Here are our tips to help seafarers stay safe and healthy at sea: 1. Training and Certification: Proper training and certification are the foundation of safety at sea. Ensure you’re equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform your duties safely. 2. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear the appropriate PPE for your role. This could include helmets, safety shoes, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and life jackets. 3. Safe Lifting Techniques: Protect your back by using safe lifting techniques. Always bend your knees and keep your back straight when lifting heavy objects. 4. Fall Prevention: Slips, trips, and falls are common accidents on ships. Always be aware of your surroundings and keep walkways clear of hazards. 5. Fire Safety: Know the location of fire extinguishers and how to use them. Regularly participate in fire drills and know your role in the event of a fire. 6. Substance-Free Workplace: Maintain a drug- and alcohol-free workplace to ensure the safety of all crew members. 7. Risk Assessment: Before starting any task, calculate the risk involved. Identify and mitigate potential risks before they become problems. #DayoftheSeafarer #SafetyTipsAtSea
