MHScot has been set up to address our concerns surrounding this challenge and to focus and encourage employers to address the mental health requirements of employees, volunteers and clients whilst encouraging a proactive rather than reactive response, to this very present challenge to our workforce and surrounding communities.

Selfcare looks different for everyone. For some, it’s about hitting the gym and eating healthy. For others, it’s spending time with loved ones, reading a good book, or taking a well-deserved nap. And sometimes, it’s simply binge-watching an entire season of a show while lounging in your comfiest pjs. Selfcare can be: • A long walk in nature • Journaling your thoughts and feelings • Cooking your favorite meal • Saying “no” to plans and simply recharging • Meditating or practicing mindfulness • Treating yourself to a spa day • Taking a break from social media There’s no “right” way to do it - whatever soothes your soul and helps you feel restored is what counts. What will selfcare look like for you this weekend? #SelfCare #Balance #MentalHealth #Recharge

Workplace pressures driving a rise in nurses experiencing suicidal thoughts. A recent report from the Royal College of Nursing - Company (RCN), published on World Suicide Prevention Day, reveals an alarming 79% increase in nursing staff seeking support for suicidal ideation. Shockingly, over two-thirds of those who reached out cited workplace issues as a key factor. The RCN calls for urgent action to address this "mental health crisis" in healthcare, with heavy workloads, bullying, and lack of work-life balance contributing to extreme pressure on staff. Recommendations for change include: • Compassionate workplace cultures that prioritise nurse wellbeing • Suicide awareness training for all HR and occupational health staff • Fully funded mental health support for nursing staff We must ensure the health of those who care for us is not neglected. Reduce burnout, boost morale, and enhance productivity with an integrated wellbeing strategy! During tough economic times, it’s no surprise that financial stress can lead to poor mental health. In fact, Mercer’s Inside Employees' Minds study highlights that mental and emotional health is now a top concern for employees, especially younger workers. Burnout, which is one of the main reasons employees leave their jobs, goes beyond stress - it's a sign of "derailed high performance." But here's the good news: an evidence-based wellbeing strategy can help. 🔑 Some of the Key takeaways from this Mercer article include: 1. Understanding Burnout: Chronic stress leads to burnout when recovery is neglected. High performers need to know that relaxation is essential, not wasteful. 2. Integrated Wellbeing Strategy: Listening to employees and creating evidence-based programmes that address physical, mental, financial, and social wellbeing is crucial. 3. Linking Wellbeing to Business Outcomes: Wellbeing initiatives directly impact company performance. It’s essential to show leadership the value of these programmes. Today, on World Suicide Prevention Day, it's essential to challenge the stigma surrounding conversations about mental health - especially when it comes to suicidal thoughts. A recent Samaritans survey revealed that while 74% of people feel comfortable discussing general mental health, only 45% feel the same about opening up about suicide. This is something we need to address. Talking about these difficult emotions doesn't have to be intimidating. By creating a space for open, compassionate conversations, we can offer support to those who need it most - and maybe even save lives. Let's continue to break the silence and remind people they are not alone. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealthMatters #YouAreNotAlone #BreakTheStigma
