This time last week we were marching at Pride in London with our amazing community! Did you see us marching? It was such a sunny and joyful day, and a chance for people in our community from all over the UK to come together and celebrate. Help us support more #LGBTQI #refugees and people seeking asylum by becoming an ally today. https://lnkd.in/eGYZfUt

About us
Micro Rainbow’s vision is to create a world where lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people are safe, free from discrimination, persecution and have equal opportunities in life, including in accessing employment, training, financial services and housing. Our mission is to create opportunities for LGBTQI people to fulfil their potential in life and create innovative models for social change that are sustainable, scalable and replicable. Our objectives are: - to provide safe housing to LGBTQI asylum seekers and refugees - to facilitate access to employment, volunteering, training and education for LGBTQI refugees - to research and better understand the specific issues faced LGBTQI asylum seekers and refugees and to make recommendations that improve their lives. Our core beliefs are: - many LGBTQI people across the world are more vulnerable to poverty and isolated because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity or intersex status. When they come to the UK to seek safety they still face homelessness and discrimination. - LGBTQI people who are homeless and trapped in poverty can break the poverty cycle if they are given the opportunity. - addressing homelessness and poverty contribute to creating new narratives that change social attitudes towards refugees and LGBTQI people Our principles: - we provide hope and additional resources, but not charity; - we do not persuade or motivate people to help themselves; - we speak, consult and research with local communities, continuously; - we work in partnership or not at all; - we understand that social change takes time, and that is ok; - we maximise and make full use of existing resources whenever possible; - we believe that professionalism, efficiency, financial health and changing the world can go together. Big numbers look good and we hope to achieve them, however everyone that works with us is important to us and our focus is in changing people’s lives, one at a time.

LGBTQI Social enterprises can provide a sustainable and resilient alternative to the traditional NGO model, according to our founder and CEO Sebastian Rocca: LGBTQI "social enterprises could transform our movement and act as a catalyst to allow us to respond faster and more effectively to our challenges, create more resilient LGBTQ+-driven organisations and increase solidarity" Read his article for Pioneers Post to learn more:
"Internationally, we see countries like Ghana and Uganda introducing harsher laws to criminalise LGBTQ+ people. Several states in the USA are trying hard to erode trans rights. It feels like hate and fear against LGBTQ+ people are on the rise across the globe." Sebastian Rocca, founder and CEO of Micro Rainbow, explains how social enterprises offer "a more sustainable business model" for the LGBTQ+ movement to fight against the rise of LGBTQ+-phobia. Some heartwarming news to end the week - Talah and Bayan, a #lesbian couple from Saudi Arabia, have just moved into one of our safe houses for #LGBTQI people fleeing persecution. Same-sex sexual activity is illegal in Saudi Arabia, and LGBTQI people are subject to arrest, and those arrested are at risk of execution from Saudi authorities. Bayan and Talah were not safe in Saudi Arabia, but now in the UK, they can start to live more openly as a couple. They can also attend Micro Rainbow events and activities, and find new networks of friendship and support in the UK. Make Bayan and Talah feel more welcome - send them something from our Amazon wishlist! https://lnkd.in/gk3QSSF

Pride Month may be over but Micro Rainbow still has lots to celebrate! Our founder and CEO Sebastian Rocca has been nominated for the Pioneering Leader Award in the NatWest SE100 Social Business Awards for 2024. This nomination recognises Sebastian's leadership of Micro Rainbow for the past 12 years, and the team he has brought alongside!
I feel privileged to be nominated for the "Pioneering Leader" Award by NatWest SE100 Social Business Awards 2024 and Pioneers Post. This nomination is very close to my heart. Over time, my concept of "leader" has evolved. Growing up, my leader role models seemed to prioritise overworking and endurance over wellbeing and resilience. I have experienced personally the pros and cons of both approaches. The latter is definitely the one I recommend! I want to role model #authenticleadership and I am open to bringing my #vulnerability in leadership too. This includes sharing my lived experience as a social entrepreneur - the good, the bad and the ugly: https://lnkd.in/d-xujdGf And what an honour to be nominated alongside these formidable leaders: Anna Wardley, Lisa Stepanovic MBE, Bilkis Miah, Hayley Hulme, Alastair Davis OBE and James Dunbar. We are all winners! 🏆 A leader never works alone. This recognition is also for the amazing people who support Micro Rainbow (the team, our partners, former employees, donors, social investors, volunteers and many more!). Micro Rainbow is not just me, it never was. It is a tribe of people who are committed to finding innovative ways to end the persecution of LGBTQI people everywhere. It is my tribe. 💜

🌈 With London's iconic Pride March just around the corner, it's a crucial time to consider how we can champion equality and support LGBTQI people in achieving a life free from discrimination. 🏠 Micro Rainbow is an incredible social enterprise dedicated to creating opportunities for LGBTQI refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. Using social investment, it was able to open the first safe house in the country dedicated solely to people seeking asylum because of their sexuality, gender identity, gender expression or intersex status. Founder Sebastian Rocca says, "As a result of social investment, we have been able to create places where LGBTQI people can start expressing their LGBTQI identity in safety while they go through the painstaking process of claiming asylum in the UK." This week we welcomed three gay men into our housing in the West Midlands! They are from Grenada, Jordan and Iraq. In Iraq and Grenada, gay men face punitive prison sentences for same-sex sexual activity. Jordan is the only Arab countriy where being #LGBTQI isn't illegal, however, LGBTQI people face discrimination, abuse and often have to live in the closet, living double lives. Now they live in our safe housing for LGBTQI people seeking asylum, they can live openly and safely alongside other people in their community. Welcome them into their new homes buy sending a gift! https://lnkd.in/gk3QSSF
