New Evaluation report! The Advice in Community Settings grant programme, funded by Greater London Authority has been released this week! The programme works with organisations that are already embedded and trusted within communities to help to widen access for individuals who might not reach traditional advice services. In its second year, it demonstrates strong support for the continuation of the model to ensure many more community organisations can readily access high quality advice services. Working with delivery partners and the GLA, in collaboration with Mime and Wavehill: social and economic research we are pleased to share the impact evaluation of Years 1 and 2 of the programme. Key points to highlight ⭐️ The positive effects of the programme on advice-seekers' incomes, health, wellbeing, and confidence managing money. ⭐️ The proportion of the advice seekers seeking support with debt has steadily risen over the last year - with year one being as low as 3.6% to 32.9% at the end of year 2. ⭐️A community-based model is reaching individuals who may not typically access advice services, with 61% of those supported being first-time advice-seekers. ⭐️ In contrast to the London offices of Citizens Advice, the programme has shown effectiveness in engaging women of Black or Black British backgrounds and of working age (between the ages of 25 and 44). ⭐️Overall, the programme has supported individuals from 7,336 households, that is at least 13,570 individuals across London. Read the full report https://lnkd.in/e6Jb75Xh Also, we are thrilled to be one of the partnerships funded for a third year for our pan-London partnership with Money A+E We're proud to be a part of this important work and look forward to continuing to provide Londoners with a service that makes a difference to their lives and financial wellbeing. Thank you Greater London Authority 👏🏽🙏🏼#CommunityAdvice #Impact #Evaluation #MakingADifference #debtadvice #money #health #welfare #holisticapproach

We are excited to get the ball rolling! Raising awareness about structural discrimination in the financial sector is just the beginning. We will share our calls to action with you soon.

It’s infuriating to see the latest Citizens Advice research - released yesterday - which not only confirms that Black and Minority communities are *still* being charged more for #carinsurance than their white counterparts, but that this 'additional' cost has risen from £250 to £307 😤 This issue was first raised by Citizens Advice in 2022, so very well done to them in persisting. 👏🏽 Link to the latest research is in comments. It’ll be no surprise to most of you that it's not just the insurance sector 😐 There is increasing evidence of an ‘ethnicity premium’ on financial products and services: the direct and indirect additional costs for people from diverse ethnic communities, especially those on low incomes. The #ethnicitypremium is both a symptom and a driver of structural racism, with power being wielded through discriminatory access and pricing. It contributes to 2.5 times as many people from diverse ethnic communities living in poverty as white people. And it's getting worse, not better. If we want a fairer and more inclusive economy, there MUST be radical system change within the financial services industry to engender greater economic and racial justice. At Rooted Finance, working in partnership with Money A+E, we are working diligently with our communities and building an alliance of lived experts, industry, regulatory, and strategic partners to help deliver an evidence-based campaign to challenge this inequality. Our aim is to expose and dismantle the #ethnicitypremium and work towards Racial Justice in our financial services industry. We welcome all those who want to join us, as clearly (and the evidence shows), it's neither right nor fair!! We are grateful to be funded by Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Trust for London for this very important work. #racialjustice #equity #economicjustice #EthnicityPremium Emma Triggs Jeremond (Jerry) During - MBE , FRSA Gregory Ashby MBE Ugo Ikokwu Heather S.

Some of the banks are being told they're not paying enough interest on #savings. Of not passing on the base rate increase to their customers. What if there was another issue at play here? An issue of who is accessing those savings rates. Right now savings rates are higher than they have been for many years. The best fixed term savers are offering up to 6.1%. So it’s a really important opportunity to build wealth and become financially resilient. But people from Diverse Ethnic Communities generally have much lower levels of savings than their white British peers. For every £1 of wealth held by white British households, Pakistani households hold around 50p - and black African and Bangladeshi households, approximately 10p.* The reasons behind that #inequality are complex, but at Money A+E we don’t think it is acceptable or inevitable. And we’re taking action. We're delivering accessible, culturally competent financial education, because it is a powerful tool in closing the savings gap. Our Education Team have been spreading the word about the higher savings rates and why it’s important to take advantage. They've been sharing savings strategies in our workshops, and the power of getting started. Even 1p per day is a powerful habit, that can grow into 10p per day, £1 per day – and that’s even before interest is added on top. Frederick, our Head of Education, puts it like this: ‘Financial literacy develops certain habits, it makes you aware. Many of the people that we see don’t know about certain products that could help them. Being able to make those things visible for them is very important. With the right support, we see people save £100s, £1,000s.’ ------------------------ At Money A+E we target our support to Diverse Ethnic Communities, disadvantaged groups and young people. Our workshops have reached 1,000s of people with life-changing financial education. We deliver to adults in the community and young people in schools. Contact us to learn more about our service or partnerships. #ethnicitypremium #financialresilience #financialinclusion #equality #inclusion #diversityandinclusion #finance *Source: Runnymede Trust, ‘The Colour of Money’

A report by the Pathway to Work Commission suggests integrating health services into job centres to help about 3 million economically inactive people in the UK, primarily those with long-term health issues, return to work. It criticizes the current benefits system for relying too much on sanctions and calls for personalized, health-focused support, with a central role for local NHS integrated care boards.  We want to highlight that the effectiveness of personalized support could vary, and there might be inconsistencies in the quality and availability of services across different regions. What could this look like for people from marginalised communities? The diverse needs of economically inactive individuals, especially those from marginalized communities, may not be adequately addressed if a one-size-fits-all approach is adopted. Let’s start the conversation off by discussing how these risks can be mitigated. It would be ideal if this process were co-designed with people who have lived experience of long-term health issues and economic inactivity. What do you suggest?  Read full article here: https://bit.ly/3Yd6kch
