Another amazing holiday with Newman Holiday Trust! Certainly been making the most of my volunteering leave. I’ve also been able to raise over £8,000 through Gallagher UK’s Matched Giving, Community Fund and personal fundraising from the London Marathon for this incredible charity! Back from another incredible week with Newman Holiday Trust volunteering alongside an amazing bunch of adults and 21 inspiring children.. this holiday is the highlight of my summer every year! A charity run entirely by volunteers and spending every penny raised to provide the most memorable and life changing experiences for children with special needs across the UK. It really is a privilege to be able to volunteer on these weeks, especially when you spend the whole week surrounded by the biggest smiles and constant laughter! Back from another incredible week with the Newman Holiday Trust. This was my 4th time volunteering with the trust and each holiday gets better! I have been on cloud 9 the entire week, smiling and laughing with all of the amazing kids and volunteers. This charity takes 22 children each year with varying special educational needs on a residential holiday, providing them with enriching and empowering experiences, whilst providing much needed respite for families and carers. The trust is run entirely by volunteers and funded entirely by donations. Recently, I finished 8 days of volunteering for the Newman Holiday Trust as a special needs 1 to 1 carer. This was truly a lifechanging experience, meeting and working with incredible people volunteering their time to provide these kids with a holiday and their family's with a rest bite. I am very thankful to the organisers of the holiday, Hannah and Duncan who worked tirelessly for months in preparation of the holiday.

I‘ve just spend my 3rd time volunteering with the Newman Holiday Trust and once again it was the best week ever!! Thanks to everyone welcoming me so nicely to the London Holiday this year!! A special thank you to Bradley and Elle for organising this fun week! I‘m already super excited for next years holiday!!

While I'm still on an absolute high from my incredible time with Newman Holiday Trust last week, I thought I'd share something I've always been conscious of when I return to my "normal life"... The Newman Trust delivers forward thinking training on communication, intensive interaction, and meeting children's needs individually at their level. Each year I sit back in awe as this amazing group of "everyday" people take it on board, and apply it to everything they do during the week without so much as batting an eyelid: dancing through theme parks, stimming in queues with their children, and communicating with each and every child on an individual basis. It all seems so simple and intuitive, so why do I find that each year I then struggle to find the opportunities to put this amazing skill set into practice in my career? ❓️ The idea of introducing new concepts into teams of professionals who have spent years crafting a working model that suits them.. ❓️ The worry that ideas won't be embraced by those around me and will be perceived as too "different".. ❓️ My own anxieties of losing that "professional" character and looking "silly" infront of my colleagues.. Well this year I'm determined that my own insecurities of how new working methods will be perceived (to which I really should be giving my colleagues the benefit of the doubt) won't be an excuse to not do my absolute best to connect with each of the young people I work with in the best possible way. Sure, it may look silly on the outside, but this week as I've been.. 🆙️ Jumping with a young person who is stimming on a trampoline ↔️ Squeezing a pillow with them to show that I understand they are frustrated 🤫 Or simply sitting in silence tapping my feet because that's what they need .. I'm communicating with my young people better than I ever have before, bringing a little bit of Newman Trust energy into my working life and, hopefully, doing my job just that extra bit better! The Newman Trust claims it changes lives, I don't think that just applies to the children! #thenewmanholidaytrust #changeslives #changinglives

"The Newman Holiday Trust is a voluntary organisation which runs summer holidays for children with additional needs. The Trust provides holidays for over 140 children aged 4-18 each year, but we rely on people's generosity to help us continue our vital work." Spending the week at the wonderful Barton Camp near Bristol we did an amazing range of activities both on and off-site to give the kids a holiday they will never forget!
