  • ✨ 𝐀 𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐒𝐎𝐈𝐅’𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭✨ Pupul Bisht spoke about the need to move beyond human- and profit-centred view towards a planet-focused view.  She also shared her practice on decolonising futures, so that communities that have been systematically marginalised can come together and shape their futures, building narratives and recentering agency. We’re thrilled to see NGFP network members attend in many different capacities - as speakers, facilitators and participants sharing their perspectives. We're so fortunate that our long term partner Small Foundation is supporting the attendance of two NGFP Africa network members. Yesterday evening at #SOIF2024 we heard from Sophie Howe, SOIF's Future Governance Adviser and the world's first Future Generations Commissioner. She shared her hopes on the Declaration on Future Generations - a set of commitments on how governments will account for the interests of future generations in national and global decision-making. "Futures is going mainstream" she told us. At the Summit of the Future in September, a global movement of all UN States will convene to agree on the Declaration on Future Generations. She highlighted that while the content of the Declaration is important, the greater challenge lies in its implementation. She stressed the need to approach politicians, policymakers and Ministries of Foreign Affairs fully equipped with the commitments outlined in the Declaration, ready to engage a broader audience and represent diverse perspectives. She also warned of the risk of performative foresight—where institutions opt for quick fixes rather than genuine transformation. It is essential for changemakers to persistently take small steps that add up and move in the direction of the future. The Declaration’s commitments are actionable, with proven practices in policy assessment, intergenerational dialogue, building foresight capability and cross-sector collaboration. As we approach the UN Summit of the Future, it's important to focus on these practices to build governance capability. I'm thrilled to announce that last month I completed a 10-week certification program with the Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP). I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to expand my understanding and application of futures thinking and foresight. 🔭 Why is Foresight and Futures Thinking essential for facing today's challenges? Foresight is not about predicting the future 🔮 ; it's about understanding and anticipating change, thinking beyond fixed ideas of what the future holds, and having a structured approach for exploring and creating alternative long-term pathways for futures we want to inhabit: kinder, participatory, sustainable, just 🌿. How we think about the future, and how we imagine it, has a profound impact on the decisions we make for tomorrow. A huge thank you to our incredible instructor, Daniel Riveong, APF for his guidance, inspiring perspectives, and openness to global viewpoints. #FuturesThinking #Foresight #RegenerativeFutures #NGFP School of International Futures (SOIF)

Developed in response to the limitations of traditional stakeholder engagement approaches, TRANSFORM creates inclusive spaces where diverse participants can explore challenges and opportunities through embodied, sensory experiences. By intertwining food-related activities with futures thinking, TRANSFORM transcends conventional foresight tools, emphasizing collective belief in and mapping of pathways toward preferred futures. This approach has enabled stakeholders, from farmers and chefs to policymakers, to engage in candid discussions, break down power dynamics, and collectively envision sustainable development trajectories for their communities. TRANSFORM has been successfully applied in various contexts, including online community gatherings, speculative experiences for corporate executives, and participatory government planning processes. In each case, the methodology has proven effective in fostering authentic dialogue, inspiring action-oriented thinking, and cultivating a shared sense of agency and ownership among participants. • ✨𝐀 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤-𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 ✨ It's #NGFP2023 spotlight time! Fellow Thays Prado (Feminist Futures) recently had the opportunity to support the development of Plan International's Girls' Pact for the Future. She designed and conducted futures methods workshops with girls and young people to equip them to write the pact, as well as suggest recommendations and create requests for policymakers attending the UN Summit of the Future in September. Thays came across this project thanks to a network-powered happenstance, when a School of International Futures (SOIF)/NGFP and DUBAI FUTURE FOUNDATION partnership sponsored 20 Next Generation Foresight Practitioners to attend the 2023 Dubai Future Forum. At a UNICEF workshop there, Thays showcased and brainstormed an idea to elevate the voices of adolescent girls and young people to influence the UN Summit of the Future. Two months later, UNICEF and Plan International tapped her to design and run the workshops for the Pact. “Not only was the opportunity to be in Dubai essential for me to secure this consultancy project, but I also counted on the wonderful expertise of my mentor, Ivana Milojević, three members of the NGFP Sensing Network, and fellows from previous years—Abril Chimal, Finn S., and Kushal Sohal—to get extremely useful feedback that helped me significantly strengthen my workshop design and facilitation." Thays also leaned on the expertise and support of her 2023 Fellowship cohort and the larger network, including NGFP-ers Abril C. and Fisayo Oyewale, who co-facilitated the workshops with her.
