  • Following the launch of our refreshed strategic framework, we’re spotlighting our national services. Today, we're focusing on Counter Fraud Services (CFS) who work in partnership across NHSScotland boards to reduce the risk of fraud and corruption. Ultimately, fraud against our NHS diverts resources away from where they are needed most – to provide services to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland. Our CFS team prevent and detect different types of fraud including: ✅ Mandate fraud ✅ Prescription fraud ✅ Bribery and corruption ✅ Patient travel fraud ✅ Expenses and procurement fraud ✅ Patient exemption charge evasion ✅ Sickness absence fraud Our CFS team's actions and initiatives are estimated to have reduced fraud in NHSScotland by £4.28 million in 2023/24.

  • Our Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service provides blood, tissues, and cells to patients across Scotland, ensuring they are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. There are more than 94,000 active blood donors in Scotland. But did you know SNBTS does more than manage blood donations? 🔴 The service also provides testing and diagnostic services to ensure that all patients receive the most appropriate products and specialist treatment for their needs. 🔴 As part of SNBTS, Tissues, Cells, and Advanced Therapeutics (TCAT) provide human tissues and cells for transplantation in Scotland. TCAT's areas of expertise include bones and tendons, heart valves, haematopoietic stem cells, and islet cells. 🔴 Our colleagues at TCAT also develop and manufacture a range of advanced cell and gene therapy products, for clinical trials and patient treatment. Today, we’re talking about our National Contact Centre (NCC). Our NCC staff are integral to the smooth running of NHSScotland’s winter and spring vaccination programmes – booking and rescheduling appointments and providing advice and support. The centre also handles call operations for other short and medium term support to Scotland's public services including: ✔ Offering guidance to Ukrainian nationals in Scotland through the Scottish Government’s Super Sponsor Scheme. ✔ Assisting people with disabilities, or those who are pregnant, with information to help them travel to appointments. ✔ Connecting callers with translators The NCC workforce is located throughout Scotland - from the borders to the highlands - making it one of our most geographically diverse teams. Together, throughout 2023/24 the team handled over 630,000 calls on behalf of NHSScotland and Scotland's wider public services. • Following a refresh of our NSS strategic framework, we’ll be spotlighting each of our 12 national services. Today, we’re sharing some key facts about National Procurement (NP): ☑ NP is a one of four Scottish Public Procurement Centres of Expertise in Scotland - and is Scotland's largest, managing over £1.5bn in national contracts for NHSScotland. ☑ It procures everything from specialist medicines and bandages to MRI scanners, robotics, and bed linen. ☑ NP’s strategic sourcing teams advance innovation across NHSScotland, improve financial sustainability, and drive progress towards NHSScotland’s net zero greenhouse gas emission targets. ☑ NP has three distribution centres across Scotland with a storage capacity of 36,000 pallets. ☑ Its fleet drivers deliver up to 1million individual items per week, to hospitals across Scotland’s mainland and islands. Most recently, NP developed NHSScotland’s Community Benefits Gateway which enables matches between local community needs and support from NHSScotland suppliers. This helps to improve health and wellbeing outcomes of the communities served by NHSScotland.
