We provide #localgov services across North Yorkshire, England's largest rural county.
About us
North Yorkshire Council is responsible for delivering a wide range of local government services across England's largest rural county. We're responsible for education, social care, health, highways, libraries, trading standards and household waste recycling centres as well as hundreds of other services to a population of circa 600,000 residents. Our residents are represented by 72 elected members and the council is Conservative controlled. We are on a journey of change and modernisation over the next five years, changing the ways that we engage with the public and the ways that we work with communities in general. Whilst the challenges ahead are not to be under-estimated, there will be positive opportunities to be more efficient, to do many things better and smarter than we have before and ways of working that are better for our service areas. As we shape the organisation of the future, we will do so around core principles including: • Putting customers at the heart of all we do • Enabling stronger communities • Working in partnership • Ensuring value for money • Valuing and investing in staff • Being an innovative and learning organisation We've got over 20,000 members of staff who work in a wide range of roles and we are one of North Yorkshire's leading employers. We can all help to ensure women feel able to breastfeed anytime and anywhere. To help breastfeeding mums get the support they need we have created a breastfeeding friendly venues award. The award helps identify public places in North Yorkshire that offer a good level of facilities and welcome breastfeeding mums. The Painting Pot in Selby are just one business who have joined the scheme. Now, we're looking for other businesses who also want to sign up to be part of the award. For more on joining the scheme, see https://lnkd.in/efZAhxiq

We're now able to share major changes to the Station Gateway plan for Harrogate town centre as the scheme takes a key step forward. The £11 million scheme, under the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF), aims to boost access to Harrogate’s rail and bus stations and deliver improvements to nearby public spaces. It is part of a £44.6 million investment in North Yorkshire, which will also see a series of improvements in Selby and Skipton. As part of the statutory process, we are formally consulting on the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) required for the scheme in Station Parade. See, https://lnkd.in/eheZhZEy

At the moment there are seven different ways of collecting rubbish and recycling across the county. Having one way would be more efficient and better value for money. We’ve looked at different options for collecting recycling and believe that providing two wheelie bins, one for glass, cans and plastics, and one for paper and card will help achieve our goals. Tell us what you think by filling in the survey at https://lnkd.in/eEjyPseP
