Today, on National Suicide Prevention Day, we are reminded of the 'missed birthdays,' conversations left unsaid, and moments that could have been. Every life lost to suicide leaves a ripple of pain, but also a call to action—to be there for each other, to listen, and to ensure that no one feels alone.
As an apprenticeship provider, we work with young people every day, and we feel passionate about supporting Campaign Against Living Miserably mission to end youth suicide. The statistics are stark—more than 5,000 lives are lost to suicide each year in the UK, which is one person every two hours. Young people are especially vulnerable, and it’s vital that we create an environment where they feel supported and heard.
To help facilitate these crucial conversations, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) has introduced the C.A.R.E. Kit—an essential resource to guide us in Connect, Ask, Reassure, and Encourage. This kit provides practical tools for starting tough conversations, offering support, and ultimately helping save lives. You can find it here: https://lnkd.in/eZK6cHhN
Let’s talk more openly about mental health, create safe spaces for those who are struggling, and support organisations like CALM, which are working tirelessly to prevent these tragedies. Below is a powerful image from their 'Missed Birthdays' campaign.
