About us

Octopus Investments, part of the Octopus Group, is an investment company investing in the people, ideas and industries that will change the world. We manage investments for retail and institutional investors, investing the £13.5* billion they have entrusted to us into the areas where we believe we can have the greatest impact. More than 85% of the money we manage is invested in line with one or more of our three investment themes: empowering people, revitalising healthcare and building a sustainable planet. Our retail investors and the financial advisers that support them, have many different goals, from supporting their families to lead better lives and effectively passing down wealth to protecting their money and directing it to places that need it. We provide a range of products that help them to achieve these aims, including Venture Capital Trusts, Enterprise Investment Schemes, Business Relief-qualifying investments and listed UK small and medium-sized company funds. We support our institutional investors to meet their investment mandates on behalf of their end investors, across five specialist asset classes: renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, real estate, healthcare and venture capital. Octopus Real Estate and Octopus Ventures are part of Octopus Investments. * Octopus as at 31 March 2024 Funds Under Management data includes undrawn commitments, funds under advisory mandates and funds monitored. • We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Treeconomy and to be awarded funding from the UK Space Agency's ‘Unlocking Space for Business’ programme! This partnership and funding will allow us to pilot and embed the use of satellite-based analytics and data tools to guide and support investment decisions related to nature-based carbon projects, such as afforestation. Harnessing technology in this way will increase both speed and efficiency, to accelerate finance into high-quality nature restoration projects and set new standards for carbon removal investments. • The UK is currently facing a shortfall of affordable homes. However, there are potential solutions at hand, all of which rely on the sector working together to tackle the situation with new and innovative ways of thinking and doing. Sustainable private capital has a key role to play. Jack Burnham, Head of Affordable Housing at Octopus Investments, and Christopher Osborne, Head of Real Estate at London LGPS CIV Limited, explain how we’re working together to help address the affordable housing shortage.

  • The future of care in the UK must be sustainable. As our population ages, the demand for high-quality care homes increases – and so does the sector’s carbon footprint. We’re committed to addressing this dual challenge. Our ambitious goals include achieving net zero carbon emissions in new developments by 2030 and existing care homes by 2040. Learn how we’re navigating the complexities of sustainable construction and why it’s essential for the future of care in our latest article by Michael Toft, Head of Care Homes at Octopus Investments. • Richard Power, Head of the Octopus Quoted Companies Team, recently sat down with Guy Tolhurst of Intelligent Partnership to discuss the current opportunity in the AIM market, the Octopus approach and how the recent market cycle compares to previous market cycles. Head to the Intelligent Partnership page to watch the interview. Investing in smaller companies will place your capital at risk, and these investments are likely to fall and rise in value more than shares in larger, more established companies listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange. They may also be harder to sell.

NEW: Video Interview 📽 It’s no secret that the last five years or so have been incredibly turbulent for the AIM market. How does this current market cycle compare with previous market cycles? Can we draw parallels from past events where we have seen significant drawdown in the value of AIM? Is recovery on the horizon? We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Richard Power, Head of Quoted Smaller Companies Team at Octopus Investments for a really interesting conversation that takes a deeper dive into the AIM market. 🐙 We explore its history, its current dynamics, where opportunities can be found and how Octopus as an investment manager are able to keep chasing the prize even in the face of headwinds. We always love sitting down with the investment managers and drilling down into the nitty gritty of their approach. What’s in their investable universe? How do they screen out companies? Do they have an investment tilt? 🔍 It was a pleasure hosting Richard and learning all about the range of mandates that they run, all of which are focused on fuelling ambitious growth companies here in the UK. Anyway, it’s a really great interview and here’s a clip. If you’d like to access the full interview to hear more from Richard and our very own Guy Tolhurst, then click the link in the comments.

  • Great to see Chris McVey featured, alongside four other fund managers, in a recent Portfolio Adviser article. It looks at which small and mid-cap companies they expect to become some of the biggest names in the UK market over the next five years. The article discusses how in an ideal world, investors would buy shares in a company during its infancy and reap the potential rewards as it grows in size and influence. However, identifying a company that could become a future household name is a difficult skill that requires a lot of market knowledge. Please remember, investing will place your capital at risk.
