WHAT AN EXPERIENCE the past two days has been! We have spent just over 2 months planning for Walthamstow High School’s 2 day Tech Insight event with 180 year 9 students, to inspire them about careers in tech for Future CodeHers Below gives you an idea: Myself and our fantastic volunteers ran 3 tech-related activities on repeat with 6 groups of year 9 students across 2 days; the activities we ran were 🧩 Activity 1 was focused on teaching the principle of Agile methodology. We designed, built and delivered a session to build Walthamstow City using Lego. We introduced user stories and ran two sprints (5 mins each), of course not forgetting the sprint plans, Queen’s feedback and retro’s in between! Check out some of the lego buildings below 👀 I could not have done this activity without the support of Marelize Venter, Stephanie Le Geyt, Danielle Barnetche, Siân King, Jen Terry, Natalia Jaszczuk and Cannis Wing Tung Chan - Thank you so much 👏 👩🏽💻 </Activity 2 was focused on Web Development. This was the most awesome development experience I’ve had; our web volunteers designed an entire web programme for the students to give them a flavour of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. They designed a web page to build a restaurant, boutique, beauty shop or car garage > Big kudos to the Rightmove team - Ana Sampaio, Apurva Deshpande, Sophie Lewis, Naomi Schlösser, Alex Li AND Cassidy Colwell, Jihyo Jeon and Tracy Nkindu for the time and effort you gave us 🙌🏼 🃏Activity 3 was Highlighting Careers and Squads in Tech. The students competitive streak came out with a bang to match the job titles with the job role; and they smashed it to say the least! When asked if they know any roles in tech we heard Engineers, Programmers, Coders all thinking they were different, and they were surprised about the 14 others presented. They also didn’t realise that Instagram, Uber and TikTok are Tech companies! It was the average salaries on display that really caught their attention though 🤑 You absolutely smashed it - Beth Mayes, Henrietta Okonta, Mindy Claire, Dan Savage, Shefali Davda-Bhanot, Adila Golam and Louise Chow, thank you 👏 Not forgetting Women in Product®UK Namrata Sarmah (Nam) Chris Blackwell Áine McKay Jennie Barker (Copley)Liam Abkal-Thomas Billy Jenkins Jessica Keightley for connecting me with people from your team/community. Thanks Oliver Bernard for making these events possible. James Mace Matt Weetman Look forward to the next one!

Another day, another data breach. It seems we have no data privacy left. I had the privilege of chairing a roundtable discussion last night on AI and its impact. Big thanks to Matthew Elstow for hosting at Oliver Bernard’s HQ in central London. One topic that was of particular concern was data; data privacy, data value, and data management in the new world we are creating with AI. On privacy, it is not obvious to me that we can protect individual user’s privacy. At a minimum, the data already lost is … already lost. And new technology to protect how existing data is stored and transmitted will face all the usual hurdles of adoption and distribution. At best, we can legislate more stringent penalties for how enterprises use and protect our data. But bad actors will continue. I’m not saying we shouldn’t try, I’m just saying we have to be realistic. However, I think we can and must invest more in using technology to protect users and their interests in a world where data privacy is not guaranteed. This approach still presents serious challenges, but perhaps more pragmatically possible with the current capabilities of AI then wishing the problem away. #aiproductmanagement https://lnkd.in/eDPDckgD https://lnkd.in/e5b2jiRf

Last week we were delighted to welcome six inspirational girls through Oliver Bernard’s Future CodeHers to our East London Studios for a week's work experience in our technology department. FutureCodeHers partner with schools across the UK and connect girls interested in a future in technology with industry professionals who are passionate about nurturing young talent and opening up opportunities to explore the industry. Team members Cassandra Nicholson and Krystyna K. Wood coordinated an action packed week of activities for the group across the different functions in our technology department. This was all done in partnership with Oliver Bernard’s Naushine Robinson Assoc CIPD and Ewan Marshall so together we knew we had an enlightening week of activities ahead to benefit each of the attendees. The week included time with our business analyst, digital product owner, project management, IT service desk, information security and data functions. Needless to say we couldn’t have hosted it without the support of Suzi Colman, Hollie Buzer, Dara Kolajo, Jake Dormer, Hamzah Choudry, Kezia D., Spencer Scott CISSP GCIH, Sonali Patel and Alain Peroumal who introduced the students to their day to days and involved them in a variety of activities in their functions. We were all inspired by this wonderful group of future female talent. What a privilege to play a small part at the start of their career journeys! #WeAreAllSaints

Last Friday was the end of the 4 week Digital (Tech) T-level industry placement supported by Argus Media. We remember conversations with Caroline Loubert, Andrew Godfrey and Jon Peterson started back in May 2023 about a collaboration and it went along the lines of "we love the talks and insight days you're doing, we would love to do something longer, something impactful" ...and so just over a year later we have had Karolina Kamionka Rona Nteeba Gainelle Sarmiento and Nyashadzashe Zinyuke from Ursuline High School Wimbledon join the team at Argus Media for 4 weeks as full-time apprentices. 🙌 This is a major contribution to their 45-day mandatory company placement they need to get their qualification! At the age of 16/17, the students have gained invaluable insight across tech including: 🗞 Different roles across Product Management, UX Design, Engineering, QA, Service desk. 🐞 They found a software bug in their first week! 😯 They've been surprised about how similar their course content is to the real world ↗ Different pathways people took to get into tech 👍 👎 What jobs they like and what they don't want to do! ...and outside of the above, they loved how friendly, welcoming and supportive the team are and will miss you (and the pool table 🎱 ) Thank you to everyone at Argus Media for this unforgettable opportunity 👏👏 Meltem Dincer Tunde Jinadu Theodora Winful Naushine Robinson Assoc CIPD Halima Bhayat Oliver Bernard
