🎙 New Episode of #Politicomms now LIVE, with Katie Perrior. In a 20-year career at the heart of politics, Katie has advised parliamentarians on both sides of the political divide – running the PR campaign for Boris Johnson’s successful Mayoral bid in 2008 and then going on to become the first female Director of Communications at No.10 Downing Street for Theresa May. Prior to this, Katie served in a number of senior roles, including Deputy Head of Press for ITV News and Head of Press for Channel 4 News. We've gone from counting weeks and days to hours, as polling day is in sight. In this episode, with our VIP guest, we discuss the comms strategies to employ in the final throes of the campaign; squeeze messaging and swing voters; plus what the new comms director should be doing in their first hours and days. 🎧 Listen now on your favourite podcast platform. W/ Jack R., Stephen Canning and Elena Campbell.

Founder of One Question & Host of the One Question podcast

The Politicomm's recent podcast episode from Onclusive, featuring the one-and-only Andrew Barr, 47, is well worth listening to. By its strapline, it is a podcast by comms people for comms people, but this episode, on the success or lack thereof of the comms strategy of both political parties, is interesting regardless. The insight that Labour is perhaps winning the comms battle, generally but predominantly on TikTok, because they aren't just having a conversation with themselves, is paramount. Seemingly, they understand the difference between who the policies are aimed at and who the comms are aimed at. It sounds obvious, but it's amazing how few companies, let alone politicians, get this right. The Guardians Ming vase analogy from Andy Barr wins Wednesday's metaphors. And Elena Campbell's brilliant challenge, "Even if the comms and the messaging and the policies are perceived to be popular, it can all be made redundant by the fact that the person saying them or the leader or, in this case, possibly the current Prime Minister is unpopular and therefore, does that at least diminish the impact of the comms and potentially make some of the policies at the other end of the scale a bit mute?" The idea that who we are and how we lead is even more important than *what* we do today is a fundamental challenge for every kind of leader, and it is precisely why we are asking, "How do we lead in 2024?"  😉 The episode is linked in the comments, as they say. 🎙
