The Paralympics bring many inspiring stories of greatness and people overcoming challenges and adversity. Good luck to Paralympics GB and to Aaron Phipps who gets underway tomorrow in the wheelchair rugby. We were proud to have Aaron at one of our #PennineCarePeople Awards to share his incredible story of a life-changing illness, disability, overcoming the odds, and winning a gold medal.

'Arts for the Blues' is helping young people in Stockport who are feeling depressed, low and anxious. Cynthia, clinical psychologist, and Hollie, assistant psychologist, with Stockport CAMHS are running these evidence-based creative sessions to remove the stress of speaking about hard things. This helps young people to express themselves however they feel comfortable. “We start with calming instrumental music while we colour, visualise our feelings, and engage our senses and quieten overwhelming emotions. “We've already seen two autistic young people connect and even meet up outside of the group. “We've also heard young people sharing a little more about themselves without needing to be asked and asking us for more support."

We hope everyone had a brilliant Bank Holiday. Our #PennineCarePeople had a great one at Manchester Pride, marching alongside NHS colleagues from NHS Professionals, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, NHS England and others. Cedars ward in Oldham were happy to receive a large donation of some classic 'Aeroplane' magazines, thanks to efforts from occupational therapist Angie. Sylvie, deputy ward manager said, "We know that older and classic items, such as this, can help bring about some comfort and nostalgia for people with dementia. "We've already seen patients reading and enjoying them, which is really great. We're so grateful."

A fantastic five-star rating for our Birch Hill catering team and Haven cafe, from environmental health at Rochdale Borough Council. Jamie Beaumont, food services manager said, "This rating recognises all their hard work, care and diligence. "Boths team work to achieve the best possible standards for food safety and quality, to ensure patient experience and satisfaction are met. We're so proud of them. It is a great achievement."

Taylor ward have been trying out sound bath sessions with a local therapy instructor, to unwind and help with recovery. The use of sound in this way can reduce stress, anxiety and fatigue, improve sleep and focus, and can accelerate healing. Sophie, activity coordinator said, "Jane [the therapist] explained the science behind it, which is based on our bodies being composed of 70% water. "The frequencies of the sounds have a direct impact on our bodies and can help our health. We had a great time and look forward to seeing her again."

Joanne Ellis, operational early intervention in psychosis clinical lead, has co-authored an online journal published by Cambridge University Press. The journal is called ‘reflections on working as and supervising trial therapists on trials of psychosocial interventions’ Joanne said, "I offered insight from my experience working on large, multi-site randomised clinical trials over the past seven years. Being involved in research provides unique opportunities for specialist training and supervision, but also supports evidence-based care, more access to psychological therapies and improved patient outcomes."
