Over the past 25 years, Traid has been the sole registered charity that advocates for a better fashion industry – from our amazing charity shops in the UK, to funding global projects that make an impactful difference to cotton farmers and garment workers.   This year Traid has committed £532,367 to five projects in five countries that will make vital changes to the lives of the people who make our clothes. Our 2024 funding will: allow farmers in Benin to change their agriculture around cotton by growing organic crops and eliminating the use of dangerous pesticides; provide garment working mothers in Bangladesh safe spaces to leave their children while at work, build upon innovative science-led pesticide-free crop management in Ethiopia; give children the rights to reclaim childhood and be free from child labour in the textile industries in Nepal and India; and support girls into education and away from dangerous waste picking on landfill sites in Bangladesh.   This incredible work is achieved through the power of second-hand and the support from our amazing Traid community by shopping and donating at Traid. Our 2024 global projects 🌍️: Expanding Benin’s organic cotton sector⁠ ⁠ Since 2009 we have funded the incredible work of OBEPAB and PAN UK to establish Benin's organic cotton sector. Fifteen years later this project has grown to become one of the largest organic cotton projects in Africa. ⁠ ⁠ Together with our project partners we have empowered over 6,205 farmers to make the move to grow pesticide-free crops where over 4,475 farmers are certified organic cotton growers. I am literally over the moon to share an update with you about my project River Story. It's a photographic project looking at the relationship between people and the natural world, and aimed at inspiring a positive shift towards environmental action and protection. Not only will it be exhibiting at ONCA GALLERY LIMITED in September, but I've also had confirmation from Brighton & Hove City Council that the project can be featured as a takeover on the Gabions along Brighton seafront, which will expose it to a huge public audience! On top of that, I'm especially excited about the partnerships I've made which will bring the exhibition to life, and create a forum for in-depth participation. Several amazing environmental charities have agreed to run workshops during the exhibition, offering engagement for learning and positive action, adding huge meaning to the project, and its ability to inspire people to make crucial environmental change! I've started a Crowdfunding page to support the production of the exhibitions for River Story, to ensure that it will have the strongest impact possible, and there are tons of great rewards for pledging to support the project!
