Reducing Environmental Pawprints

About us

Pet Impact envisions a future where sustainable pet ownership is the norm - the standard rather than a choice. We are on a mission to go beyond simply reducing our pets' environmental pawprints; we are here so pet owners can make a positive impact. We want every product we create to be a proactive step towards a cleaner, healthier planet. Founded and run by veterinarians, we keep pet health and wellbeing a primary focus, while ensuring our eco-friendly pet products are backed by evidence and research. We account for the entire life cycle of products, with a focus on minimising resource use and waste generated. We then push further to see how pet owners can not only "reduce harm", but "positively improve" the state of our planet through everyday products. We strive to make it easier for all owners to make better choices by maintaining simplicity, affordability and clarity around all we offer.

Thank you Vet Record for sharing about our reusable inco pads and kennel liners! The environmental benefits of reusable inco-pads compared with disposable pads are hard to overstate. While it is just a small change in practice, this switch to reusable pads can cumulatively make a big impact over time. We often focus on the big, exciting innovations, when in fact simple innovations like this can be just as impactful and easier to implement! #sustainability #veterinarypractice #sustainablevets #petimpact

Own a dog? You likely use dog poo bags. Many of us don't like using them because they create a lot of waste. But does simply calling it biodegradable / compostable make it eco-friendly? What're your thoughts... 🤔

A few months back, our founder Gavin Gan discussed "eco-friendly" poo bags with the Vet Record. While not directly veterinary related, the vet profession plays a huge part in responsible pet ownership, which extends into sustainability and ensuring we do what is best for our planet too. Another big misconception around biodegradable / compostable poo bags is that they stop waste ending up in landfill or incineration. 🏠 While home compostable poo bags in theory could do this, this is highly dependent on whether people actually compost them at home. However, around 95% of dog owners don’t (or can’t) compost them at home, meaning they are usually disposed of in general waste, which isn’t where they are designed to end up. 🏭 Many poo bags require industrial composting but the UK lacks the infrastructure to industrially compost them at present. 🌍As discussed previously, these bags won’t biodegrade in the environment or landfill, so they behave just like plastic unless placed in compost environments. So in reality, these poo bags do nothing to prevent bags ending up in landfill or the environment as we don’t currently have the infrastructure needed to collect and process them and too few people are able to compost them at home for this option to ever become a real widespread solution. Possibly the BIGGEST misconception around biodegradable/compostable poo bags: that they will biodegrade in landfill or the open environment. The biodegradability of these types of poo bags is highly conditional (i.e. they won't just break down wherever they end up!). All the certifications that access for biodegradability are based on the bags being in compost environments. So the bags MUST be disposed of in compost bins in order to biodegrade properly. Let's talk poo... bags. An estimated 20-30 million poo bags are used in the UK each day! Hence, using the best bags for our planet is crucial 🌍 What made us switch from offering biodegradable, compostable poo bags to now educating dog owners AGAINST using these types of poo bags? We'll be sharing a series of videos outlining the misconceptions around these bags... so look out for these and learn something new about the exciting topic of poo bags! 💩

BREAKING NEWS! 🚨 Pet Impact has officially declared Plastic Negative status for their award winning ReSEAcled Poo Bags! This makes them the world's first Plastic Negative poo bags 💩. Pet owners used to dread poo picking for fears of contributing to plastic pollution through their use of poo bags. But now, with ReSEAcled Poo Bags, dog owners can actually REDUCE marine plastic litter each time they use one!🌊 Each bag funds the collection of one ocean-bound plastic bottle through Pet Impact's unique partnership with Ocean Co. This is the equivalent of removing 5 times as much plastic from nature as used in the poo bag itself, giving ReSEAcled Poo Bags a "Negative Plastic Footprint". This has been certified and verified by the world's leading Plastic Action platform, rePurpose Global. ♻ With an estimated 25 million poo bags used daily in the UK alone, a simple switch to ReSEAcled Poo Bags could contribute to stopping 25 million plastic bottles from entering our ocean - every day! Now pet owners can be empowered as key players in the fight against plastic pollution. Today marks a significant step towards a sustainable future - join us in reducing environmental pawprints! 🌍✊ *image made for entertainment purposes 😉

Earlier this month, our two founders Alice & Gavin were presented with the 30 Under Thirty award at London Vet Show London Vet Show & BVA Live with several of their wonderful peers in the veterinary community who have all done remarkable things! 🏆 Through Pet Impact, Alice & Gavin have improved the sustainability of both the veterinary and pet industry in small but significant ways. Pet Impact's reusable incontinence pads and kennel liners are now widely used across vet practices, hospitals and vet schools - replacing single use disposable pads that were previously the norm, and hence drastically reducing plastic waste across the industry. Alice & Gavin also recognised that poo bags are the biggest source of physical waste dog owners produce. Thanks to their thorough in-depth research, eco-conscious dog owners now have a genuinely sustainable option of poo bag - ReSEAcled Poo Bags, the world's first certified Plastic Negative poo bags! Of course, they could not have achieved all this without your support, so thank you all very much! We're excited to continue working towards a future where sustainable pet ownership is the norm. 💚
