Watch the video below for a virtual tour inside our #advancedrecycling plant with SABIC in Geleen, the Netherlands. The joint venture (SABIC Plastic Energy Advanced Recycling B.V.) is in its final stages of construction, and will have a capacity of 20,000 tonnes of #plasticwaste per year when operational. With the completion of this plant, we hope to reduce the amount of plastic waste going to landfill and incineration, and create a more #circulareconomy for plastics in the Netherlands, and Europe.
About us
Plastic Energy is the world’s leading chemical recycling company with its technology HQ in central London and industrial plants in Almeria and Seville, Spain. The company has a viable and proven solution to the global problem of plastic waste pollution. With their patented technology, they can transform post-consumer end-of-life plastic waste, destined for landfill, incineration or leakage into the environment, into a recycled oil - TACOIL™ - that can be used as a feedstock to create clean recycled plastics and contribute to the circular economy.

In this week's edition of our #meettheteam series, we speak to Avelino Rodríguez Almazán, Process Engineer at Plastic Energy. 🔵 Tell me about your role I work as a Process Engineer within Plastic Energy’s licensing department, where I am helping to develop several projects for the company. My tasks include creating engineering specifications and deliverables that meet the requirements of Plastic Energy’s clients. 🔵 Why did you choose to work for Plastic Energy? I enjoy working for Plastic Energy because its innovative recycling process is focussed on creating a new material that can be used to make new plastics. Our recycling plants also operate in Spain – I am Spanish, so enjoy keeping this connection with my home country. 🔵 Why do you work in the chemical recycling field? The global plastic waste crisis is a gargantuan problem, which must be addressed using a variety of solutions, including chemical recycling. Chemical recycling also plays a pivotal role in creating a circular economy for plastics, where materials are reused, and waste is minimised.

⭐ YEAIS winner spotlight! ⭐ Roseanna Edney, winner of the Young Engineers Awards for Innovation and Sustainability Early Career category for her work on 'Creating a Circular Economy for Plastic'. On her award win and reason for entering, she said: "I'm really excited, it's a bit of shock, but I'm very happy and proud to have got here. I wanted to showcase what I do and what my company (Plastic Energy) are doing to pave the way forward for chemical recycling, creating a circular economy for plastics by recycling end-of-life materials and using the oil created to make new plastic products. This diverts waste from landfill into a circular economy and, compared to mechanical recycling, has lower environmental emissions. "Going forward, I will continue to be involved in the design, commissioning and construction of our sites, improving their operational efficiency and increasing their capacity to really make a dent in the world's plastic problem." We wanted to say a big congratulations to our Technical Services Engineer, Roseanna Edney, who received the Early Career Award last week from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) 🏆 🏆 This was part of IChemE's Young Engineers Awards for Innovation and Sustainability. Congratulations Roseanna Edney, and thank you for your contributions every day towards helping to create a circular economy for hard-to-recycle plastics ♻ #circulareconomy #chemicalrecycling
The results are in! 🏆 Earlier today, the first-ever winners of the IChemE Young Engineers Awards for Innovation and Sustainability (YEAIS) were announced during a fantastic ceremony at our UK Head Office. Congratulations to Alexandra Joyce Roe (Undergraduate Award), Andrei Leonard Nicusan and Roberto Hart-Villamil (Postgraduate Award), and Roseanna Edney (Early Career Award) for winning their respective categories, and well done to all of this year's finalists. It's clear that the future of chemical engineering is in very good hands! To round off the week of International Women in Engineering Day, we wanted to highlight the work of Bolor-Erdene Battsengal 💻🌐 As the former chairwoman of the Mongolian government’s Communication and Information Technology Authority, Bolor transformed internet access in her homeland. In 2021, she founded the Girl Code Program to provide digital opportunities to young girls and women in remote communities. Her work embodies our own goals to boost local economies and champion women in technology. #INWED24 #enhancedbyengineering

Following on from International Women in Engineering Day earlier this week - we are paying tribute to some of the inspirational figures who embody our core mission to advance more sustainable solutions. First, we’re celebrating Mária Telkes ☀️🔥A Hungarian-American biophysicist, Telkes is one of the leading solar energy pioneers. In 1947, she developed the first solar power heating system for residential use, paving the way for many of the sustainable home heating solutions we see today 🏡🌟 As a visionary in renewable energy, Telkes' groundbreaking work aligns perfectly with our own goal of reducing emissions and contributing to the circular economy. #INWED24 #enhancedbyengineering

Each year, on 23 June, we mark #InternationalWomeninEngineeringDay 🎉 This year’s theme is “Enhanced by Engineering” - which feels very apt - as every day our colleagues help us to enhance the circular economy for hard to recycle plastics. Throughout this week we will be paying tribute across our social media platforms to inspirational female engineering figures who have embodied our core mission and advanced sustainable solutions. But to begin - we wanted to first thank our women in engineering ♻️♻️ #INWED24 #enhancedbyengineering
