I had a fantastic time at Channel 4 today at their Westminster offices supporting a great team hirining for a unique role as part of the Thomas Pocklington Trust #GetSetProgress internship programme. We met with some quality candidates and it was a pleasure getting to know each of them. It was also great having an excuse to catch up with Jamie Ward who it’s always a pleasure to speak with. As well as being given a tour of their impressive office.

Sight Loss Council volunteers share stories about the impact of overgrown bushes, trees, and shrubs. Linn, a member of the East Sussex SLC who is registered blind, recalls a monkey puzzle tree with sharp needles growing through a garden wall she passed regularly. She said: “On several occasions, I got scratched and started bleeding. It even tore my clothing. Overgrown hedges have also hit me in the face. It’s crucial to #CutItBack so no one gets hurt.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eAStw9gM #CutItBack #StreetsForAll #VisionForChange

Samiya (20) had one-to-one support for her vision impairment right through from nursery to secondary school, but this stopped abruptly when she left school. She felt prepared for adulthood in some ways, but not in terms of her independence. Having had brilliant support that suddenly ended, she found it very daunting to work out what to do next or how to live independently. The lack of support at this key transition period into Further Education is all too familiar for blind and partially sighted young people. The Curriculum Framework for Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (CFVI) identifies how vital it is to teach and support young people to develop their preparation for adulthood skills throughout their education. This involves specialist support in navigating Further and Higher Education options, accessing housing, careers education, work experience, employment, support to take personal responsibility and recognising the young person’s rights. If Samiya had access to the CFVI when she was at school, she may have felt more prepared for adulthood. Please watch, and share her story: https://lnkd.in/egsHR8Ga Help us unlock education for all. #UnlockingEducation #CFVI For more information on the CFVI please visit our website: https://lnkd.in/d-8Rk8uM RNIB University of Birmingham The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

We couldn’t agree more Jamie - thank you for supporting our #GetSetProgress internship programme!
The Thomas Pocklington trust aims to get blind and visually impaired people into work via their internship program. It has been an honour and a privilege for me to deliver presentation skills training to 23 of the visually impaired interns over the last couple of weeks. What a gifted and talented group of people. my overriding and lasting impression is that work builds confidence and self-respect. And companies are missing out by not employing visually impaired talent. Well done tpt for trying to change this and they are doing it really successfully.
