Such an informative day at the Green Halo Partnership Conference, held at the The Beaulieu Inn. Alison Barnes FRSA FLI and Gary Wilburn and the Green Halo Partnership team can be credited with bringing together various streams of research and information into one place which, for me at least, reinforced how National Parks can be good for health.. a natural health service. Impossible to pick a stand out of the day but the almost limitless amount of facts, research and clear sighted direction from Dr Tammy Boyce @tamboyce felt driven. ann hemingway and the Bournemouth University team with @Professor Keith Phalp gave us a real taste of the future with multiple departments collaborating towards innovative solutions. Anita Kerwin-Nye cut through many ongoing conversations to highlight the truth.. what needs to happen. An inspiring recollection of his journey from Leigh Johnstone, aka The Beardy Gardener and Mark Drury bringing together architecture, creative arts and nature. So many elements across the day with some forest bathing and bike riding from Pedall to remind everyone why we were there. When there's so much talk of bold new technologies to capture carbon dioxide, we often overlook the low hanging fruit. Nature. 'Simply' stopping peat bogs degrading, and allowing them to flourish and so do more of what they've been doing for millennia, capturing vast amounts of carbon dioxide and holding on to it, should be a first step, top of every agenda and relatively speaking, quick and easy to do. Endless beatings with the bad news stick is not the way forward, we become insensitive to it, indifferent. It's more useful to put that stick in the sand every now and then to check where we are, which The Guardian have helped with here. The takeaways are that things aren't about to get serious, they already are. Going above the agreed 1.5C just makes things more difficult, the higher you go. It will be difficult for all of us, impossible for some. The apathy could be blamed on a lack of political will and vested corporate interests. It's a worthy read. Covid proved that the scientists had the facts and we felt safer relying on them. The information a spectrum of scientists could give, broadly, changed our minds, informed us and gave us confidence to work together in ways we could never have imagined possible. Positive change in the natural environment demands that we listen to that broad spectrum of scientists again. Their voice should be louder and rise above the false noise that guesswork and vested corporate interests will always create.
