🎬 OUR CO-FOUNDERS IN CONVERSATION 🎬 To mark our 10th Birthday ✨, we brought POWERful Women’s inspirational founders Laura Sandys CBE and Baroness Sandy Verma together to share their memories, stories and ideas. Laura and Sandy look back at the early days of setting up the initiative and what made it work. And they look ahead at what business, cultural and systemic changes are still needed to get more women into leadership and move the dial closer to gender balance in energy. 👩🏻💻 🔗 Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/dRnkdqst 💬 “Let’s get tough on outcomes” 💬 “I’m impressed by companies who have clear objectives that their Finance Director, CEO or Chair will be a woman in the next 3 to 4 years. That will change things. And every time you see a female CEO you start to see new women coming through.” 💬 “I’d love to go into a school, especially schools where ambition and aspiration don’t feature, and say how there are many different routes into energy. The key message is: don’t limit yourselves.” 💬 “There is no more exciting sector than energy. For women to get involved, to bring a different dimension, isn’t just a nice to have, it’s critical for the industry." Settle down with a cuppa and prepare to be energised! ☕️ 💪 #10yearsofPfW #womeninenergy #DiversityEquityandInclusion #DEI #energytransition #talent #leadership
POWERful Women
Non-profit Organization Management
PfW is working for greater representation of women at the top of the UK's energy industry.
About us
Chaired by Katie Jackson, and based at the Energy Institute as project partner, POWERful Women (PfW) is working for a diverse, inclusive and gender-balanced energy industry in the UK. The energy sector is tackling a wide range of important issues – from energy security and affordability to building a more sustainable low carbon future. Because industry competitiveness relies on being able to attract and retain a diverse pool of talent capable of bringing fresh perspectives, PfW believes much stronger female representation is needed at the top tables. By bringing together a mix of industry, academic and political leaders – spanning a wide range of technology sectors, services, roles and viewpoints in the industry – we work to support and encourage energy companies to attract and cultivate female talent and appoint more women to senior roles as part of building stronger businesses, adapting to changing markets and engaging better with consumers. Our "40 by 30" goals are for women to occupyat least 40% of middle management and leadership roles in the UK energy sector by 2030. To achieve this we SUPPORT, CHALLENGE and CONNECT. Find out more about our work by visiting our website, subscribing to our newsletter or getting in touch.

How it started .......................................................... How it's going ................. In 2015, when POWERful Women first started gathering data, women occupied just 9% of all board seats in the UK energy sector. 📈Our latest data, published with Bain & Company, shows that female representation has more than trebled since then. But there is more to do to get to gender balance at the top! A fifth of the UK's energy employers have no women on their boards at all, which is a sorry state of affairs in 2024 - for women and for the performance of those companies in a sector that needs diverse talent, leadership and innovation. 📣 CALL TO ACTION - we need to accelerate the pace of change 🏃🏻♀️➡️ Check out our new '40 by 30' manifesto, with 3 key actions that will move the needle towards our 40% by 2030 target and beyond, and make your own commitments. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eWtWzFjq What will YOU do? #10yearsofPfW #womeninenergy #calltoaction #DEI #energytransition

👷♀️ #DIDYOUKNOW? The Europe and North America region has the highest representation of women in the wind energy sector at 26%. While this is an achievement, there's still a lot of work to do to ensure these regions acclimate to even better gender ratios. This is why GWEC is supporting IRENA's Global Gender Survey that shapes their Renewable Energy: A Gender Perspective Report. This report will be a vital tool in understanding gender dynamics within our industry and shaping future policies and initiatives to promote gender equality and diversity. 🔦 Who Can Participate? Open to ALL individuals and organizations in the renewable energy sector and related industries! 🚨 Make your voice heard and help progress women in the decade of change: https://lnkd.in/d-rh9UK4 💼 Organised by International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) supported by Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)'s WIW Global Leadership Program and Progress Partner Suzlon Wind Energy Corporation (SWECO).

Absolutely delighted to have been on the panel for this important topic related to the #climatecrisis and our confidence in meeting #netzero. Over a 100 online with some great questions covering areas such as carbon reduction initiatives in transportation, net zero timescales, green jobs training and encouraging mid and senior level management buy-in. I’d like to thank Katie K. and Chartered Management Institute and Cleo Taylor for the invite and technical support. Also Lauren Neal, Melissa Page, Katie and David Jones for their insightful and on-point comments. We have some challenging targets to meet and novel technologies to develop as we negotiate the climate crisis and need all hands to the pump. Let’s get on with it putting the needs of people first and with a spirit of optimism and global collaboration. Today, I had the pleasure of being joined by Melissa Page, Lauren Neal, David Jones, and Vince Pizzoni as fellow panelists during our Chartered Management Institute webinar, "Achieving Net Zero: Leading People Towards a Sustainable Future." We covered a diverse set of topics, from the importance of leadership development in driving a successful energy transition to building a culture of psychological safety to retain scarce talent. Here are my three key takeaways that resonated deeply and were echoed by each panelist: 1. "Don’t let perfection get in the way of good," said Melissa Page. Embracing a fail-fast mentality encourages continuous learning and improvement. As we navigate one of the most significant energy transitions of our lifetime, it's crucial to learn as we go and take appropriate risks. Lauren Neal reinforced this by stating, "It's okay to say we don't know." Promoting a culture of genuine humility is essential to retaining a diverse set of energy professionals. 2. "There's no success in being right if we are not being understood," highlighted David Jones. We need to equip managers leading sustainable initiatives with the necessary people skills. The CMI offers training and certification in areas such as strategy, innovation, stakeholder management, change management, and more to support this development. 3. "We need to look for the right mindsets and approach [rather than purely technical skills]," emphasized Vince Pizzoni. I strongly advocate for recruiting based on potential and cultural fit, especially for early-career recruits. This approach is even more critical during the energy transition when the specific skills we need may not yet be widely available. If you couldn’t catch it live, you can stream it below. #cmi #cmiconfidence #cmilondon #energytransition #netzero

📣 A CALL TO ACTION – WILL YOU HELP ACCELERATE CHANGE? Last week we marked #10yearsofPfW by launching a manifesto for the next 10 years and beyond. We have set out 3 KEY ACTIONS that can make change happen within companies, alongside suggestions for game-changing policies and initiatives that we know make a difference to diversity, equity and inclusion. It’s a roadmap to our 40% by 2030 target … and towards a gender-balanced energy sector that’s fit for the energy transition. Will you sign up? Go to our new MANIFESTO PAGE to make your own commitment: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eWtWzFjq WHY IS THIS NEEDED? Since PfW was founded in 2014: ✅ the representation of women at board and executive board director level has more than tripled ✅ women are now in 34% of leadership and 32% of middle management roles in UK energy companies But it looks like progress is stalling. We need to accelerate the pace of change if we are to meet our 40% by 2030 target 🏃🏻♀️➡️ 🎯 It’s a BOLD ambition, but we know it’s ACHIEVABLE – we just need stronger commitment and much faster action. Will you join us in pushing for our target of 40% by 2030❓ Will you review and commit to concrete actions in your company that make a difference❓ What will YOU do now to drive change❓ We need everyone to get on board – whether you are a CEO, in government or the regulators, a line manager or in the supply chain, an investor, a male ally or an advocate! Please make your commitment. Thank you 🙏 #manifesto #womeninenergy #10yearsofPfW #talent #energytransition #DiversityEquityandInclusion #DEI #genderdiversity
