Siemens Healthineers is set to acquire the molecular imaging business of Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis in a deal valued at over $224 million. This acquisition specifically targets the diagnostic division of Advanced Accelerator Applications (AAA), which Novartis had previously purchased in 2017 for $3.9 billion. The deal is expected to strengthen Siemens Healthineers' position in the medical imaging sector, particularly in the production of radioactive compounds crucial for PET scans used in cancer diagnosis. AAA operates Europe's second-largest network of cyclotrons, which are essential for manufacturing these radioactive materials. While Novartis is divesting the diagnostic arm of AAA, it will retain the therapeutic portion of the business, including the radiopharmaceutical Lutathera, approved for treating neuroendocrine tumors. Importantly, Siemens Healthineers will continue to partner with Novartis in the radioligand therapy (RLT) business, ensuring ongoing collaboration in this field. Novartis' decision to sell the diagnostics portion of AAA aligns with its strategy to focus on its core strengths. As a Novartis spokesperson explained, "The growth of the molecular imaging business would be best supported under the ownership of a dedicated diagnostics shareholder."The acquisition is anticipated to close by the end of 2024, subject to regulatory approvals and discussions with Novartis' works council. This move represents a significant step for Siemens Healthineers in expanding its influence in the European medical imaging market and strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving field of precision medicine. https://lnkd.in/eZ5n7iS8 Stay informed and ahead of the curve by following Practical Patient Care on LinkedIn for the latest industry news and insights! #PracticalPatientCare #MedicalImaging #Acquisitions #Radiopharmaceuticals #HealthcareTechnology

AISAP, an Israeli medical technology company, has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its AI-powered AISAP Cardio point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) software platform. This cloud-based system combines four computer-assisted diagnosis modules for valvular pathologies with eight key measurements, automatically generating analyses, interpretations, and reports for cardiac ultrasound examinations. The AISAP Cardio platform is designed to enable clinicians with basic scanning skills to accurately diagnose up to 90% of common cardiac structural and functional parameters at the bedside within minutes. It provides diagnostic assessments and measurements for various cardiac parameters, including valvular pathologies, left ventricular ejection fraction, ventricular dimensions, and more. AISAP CEO Adiel Am-Shalom emphasized the platform's potential impact, stating, "AISAP Cardio was developed by top-notch technologists and cardiologists to close critical gaps in patient care. Our 'anywhere, anytime AI' approach is aimed at transforming healthcare by bringing cutting-edge diagnostic tools to the point of care." The system's performance has been validated through studies showing that non-cardiologist physicians using AISAP Cardio can interpret point-of-care echocardiograms at a level comparable to expert cardiologists. In standalone performance testing, the platform demonstrated 93% sensitivity and 93% specificity for detecting major valve diseases. This FDA clearance marks a significant step in bringing advanced AI-powered diagnostic capabilities to the point of care, potentially improving patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency across various clinical settings. https://lnkd.in/eKwUvk4w Stay informed and ahead of the curve by following Practical Patient Care on LinkedIn for the latest industry news and insights! #PracticalPatientCare #MedicalAI #CardiacImaging #PointOfCareUltrasound #FDAClearance

Medtronic has reached a significant milestone with the FDA's approval of expanded magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) labeling for its deep brain stimulation (DBS) systems, including the Percept PC, Percept RC, Activa PC, RC, and SC models. This approval allows for extended active scan times, enhancing diagnostic and functional assessment options for patients. Dr. Ashwini Sharan, Chief Medical Officer of Medtronic Neuromodulation, stated, “We know that nearly 70 percent of all DBS-eligible patients are estimated to require an MRI as part of their essential care. Only Medtronic DBS systems can continue therapy ON in bipolar mode, under certain conditions, while a patient is having an MRI scan.” This unique capability ensures that patients can receive necessary imaging without interrupting their therapy. Amaza Reitmeier, Vice President and General Manager of Medtronic Brain Modulation, added, “Patients with movement disorders have debilitating tremors that often impact their ability to physically engage in everyday moments, as well as medical treatments that require stillness like an MRI. This updated labeling is another example of our unwavering commitment to enabling personalized patient care, with the goal of many more patient lives transformed with DBS therapy.” This expanded MRI labelling not only improves patient access to essential imaging but also reinforces Medtronic's leadership in providing innovative solutions for individuals with neurological disorders. https://lnkd.in/ec6ZQKGH Stay informed and ahead of the curve by following Practical Patient Care on LinkedIn for the latest industry news and insights! #PracticalPatientCare #MedicalInnovation #DeepBrainStimulation #MRICompatibility #NeurologicalCare

MRIMath has achieved a significant milestone in the field of medical AI with FDA clearance for its innovative MRIMath i2Contour device and AI solution for glioblastoma (GBM) management. This cutting-edge technology aims to revolutionize the way healthcare providers handle GBM cases, offering a blend of efficiency and precision that could transform patient care. The MRIMath i2Contour device leverages advanced AI-powered tools to streamline the GBM management process, potentially saving physicians up to an hour per imaging study. This time-saving feature addresses a critical bottleneck in patient care, allowing for faster treatment initiation. The device's AI capabilities extend to accurate labeling of GBM in MRI sequences, achieving impressive accuracy rates of 95% for T1c and 92% for FLAIR images. One of the key advantages of this technology is its ability to minimize inter-user variability. The smart manual contouring feature demonstrated less than 5% variability between radiologists for T1c sequences and under 10% for FLAIR sequences. This consistency is crucial for ensuring reliable diagnoses and treatment plans across different healthcare providers and institutions. As Professor Burt Nabors from the University of Alabama's neurology department notes, "This advance in technology will help improve the outcomes for patients with glioblastoma". By providing advanced tools for rapid, longitudinal computation of segmented imaging changes, the MRIMath i2Contour device and AI solution offer a promising path forward in the challenging field of GBM management. https://lnkd.in/eZzEFX3H Stay informed and ahead of the curve by following Practical Patient Care on LinkedIn for the latest industry news and insights! #PracticalPatientCare #MedicalAI #GlioblastomaTreatment #HealthcareInnovation #FDAClearance
