Some Friday thoughts from Ben Reilly
Salute to all the working parents out there. My algorithm is showing me lots of posts from new parents about the joys and struggles of juggling being a new parent with building up your business from scratch. Both roles are all-consuming, so how do you manage it? I've picked up a few things which help my family and I get through and thrive. 1️⃣ Family time is family time. Even if it's only a couple of hours at the end of the day, when my daughter is having a breakdown, it's still treasured time that we won't get back. So take it all in. 2️⃣ Get used to less sleep. It's just not practical (in my experience, at least), to get 8 hours a night, whilst building up a business & raising a child & trying to stay fit and everything in the middle. I know what they say, but just get used to it. It ain't happening! 3️⃣ Make the most of the morning time. I take the 5am feed every day. At the start it was hard, but now I use the time between putting my daughter back to bed at about 5.45 and starting work at about 8am to do some self care. Depending on the day, that means either a workout, meditation, or journaling. At the weekend, I always try to learn something in that time about how I can get better the following week. 4️⃣ Plan your working day meticulously, and consistently stick to it. I have blocks scheduled in my calendar so that I commit to getting a certain task done, and complete it. Sprints for client & candidate time, and blocks for other tasks. 5️⃣ Embrace it. Your old life isn't ever coming back, but the new one is amazing. So savour every moment. My daughter is nearly 6 months old. And it's honestly flown by. Here's my new favourite pic of the 2 of us from last week when we went out for lunch for my wife's birthday. Let me know how you manage to juggle everyday life in the comments below! I'd love to pick up some new tips ☺️☺️☺️
